I'm just saying there is nothing special going on in Option 2 which is likely to have broken with Win10. It's more likely just something minor you're missing.

I'm sure someone that has used Option 2 will be able to help you out. A lot of people have used that approach.

Reading the error message, did you download the WinTV software and put it in c:\temp? It's basically looking to extract some components from the WinTV installer, but not finding the installer in the directory. ie, you'd should the installer called something like wintv7_cd_3.9g.exe in the same directory as your softpvr.bat, then run it, and it'd extract the files it needs.

:-)
I had to make the temp folder on the C: drive. I even changed the Windows setting to see if there was a hidden folder at there.

does :-) mean you got it to work, or is that just a smile thanking for the help but you still don't have it working?

I doubt that installer works with WinTV8... it hasn't been updated lately. Can you still download WinTV7? It should work with that.

edit: I've just confirmed that the batch file works fine on Windows 10 with WinTV7 3.9g, which is what is linked in the wiki. However, I did have to disable my BitDefender Antivirus, it kept blocking part of the WinTV7 extractor so that only a small portion of the files were extracted (and of course not the 6 needed files). If it's not working for you, make sure your antivirus and/or other security software is off; if it's still not working, all I can say is read the instructions in the wiki again.

edit 2: I do see where the batch file tells you to put the WinTV7 file in c:\temp if it can't find it. that really isn't correct, it makes no different where you put the WinTV7 files, as long as it's in the SAME DIRECTORY with the SoftPVR.bat file. (so that is to say, putting the WinTV7 file in C:\Temp is fine IF that's where you put the SoftPVR.bat, but completely wrong if it isn't)

edit 3: the batch file in the wiki will work with WinTV8 if you rename the download to "WinTV7_cd_whatever.exe", however I've updated the SoftPVR.bat to just look for "WinTV*.exe" so it will attempt it with any download (attached to this post). I also updated the error message if the WinTV*.exe file is not found. However for me the trap for the missing file doesn't work, it just says "File Not Found" and goes on throwing errors (even the unmodified version from the wiki); I have no idea why.

FINAL COMMENT: The "SoftPVR" files in the WinTV8 download are EXACTLY the same files as in the WinTV7 download. None of these files have changed in 7 years, so there's really no reason to use the WinTV8 download... but users being as they are, they'll go hunt down the WinTV8 download anyway, nevermind what the Wiki says to do, because WinTV8 has a bigger number and therefore must be better (logic that is always applied to every piece of software except Windows).

I haven't got it to work, but haven't tired. I hopefully will try this out tonight.

Also, I am going to order a DTA for this setup, I am told I need an IR Blaster, is there one that is going to work better with my hardware and software?

No need to scan, you need to configure a fixed source and an ir blaster and then manually add channels.

I probably should wait until I get the DTA for this system and an IR Blaster, correct?

For the blaster yes. You can still hook up channel 3 or component now to your existing DTA to see if analog is h/w or software decoding etc
