Is it *literally* "only" for MCE? Of course if it has BDA drivers AND sub is succesful with his BDA implementation in GBPVR, then we'll have a cheapo hardware option that's no longer MCE only Wink

*shrug*

FWIW guys... my impression is that the ATI HDTV wonder was a P.O.S. out of the gate with half-baked drivers... but my impression/understanding is that it's now a more viable option... it certainly is more readily available in retail circles... Although the fusion card is probably the more interesting card for us determined hobbiests =)

There are a lot of retuns on HDTV stuff in general, because joe q. public is very confused about all the different standards (EDTV vs HDTV, plasma vs lcd vs crt) over the air vs digital cable/satellite... DVI, HDCP, DMI, LMNOP!

but i digress...

I agree, the industry rushing to make a quick dollor has flooded the market with a wide rang of items with very simalar advertising marks to confuse everyone. The whole DIY PVR does bring allot of interest from people who expect the plug-and-play ease of a TIVO box, but get discuraged and return the items shorly after.

Hallo,

I don't have hdtv yet. But I am just wondering why you guys did not mention the skystar2 card.
The card is not yet supported by gb-pvr, is that right?
It has (at least beta) BDA drivers.
At least their homepage says that the skystar2 is hdtv ready.
If the hardware is hdtv ready or hdtv is done in some software trick I don't know.
But maybe adding ss2 support might help with the hdtv issue as this card is not expensive.

Those were just a few thoughts about this hdtv thread.

Grettings,
Richard

I know several people running the Avermedia PVR150 card instead of Hauppauge 150 with great results (including GBPVR). The one downside of the A180 is it's digital only so we don't really end up with a 2nd tuner. It also requires a lot of horsepower, 2.4 and up. As an upside (besides price) it does support QAM for us cable people. Fusion is supporting QAM with beta drivers at this point. Another positive for the Fusion is it only requires a P3 750 if you have a decent video card.

Sub,

If you're interested, you might want to put a post in this thread over at AVS Forum, http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthrea...did=501155. It should be a discussion about the new AverMedia A180 HD card. Alot of the people in the thread already have the Fusion and ATI cards and they are asking about PVR alternatives to MCE. It seems to me that if a couple of those people would install GB-PVR, they could test it with all three cards.

I've had read through that, but not really in a better position to to say if its good or bad device.

It did remind me of one thing I've been meaning to point out. Most of the HDTV cards also include an analog tuner. GB-PVR wont be supporting this analog side of the card, although you might be able to use it through normanr's software encoder plugin.

We're still a long way off having it working in GB-PVR.

The Fusion device is sounding the best to me at this stage (QAM abilities etc)

I agree with the Fusion card as our first choice.

Are there any GB-PVR users out there that already own a Fusion card and are willing to help test?

Sub,

Bummer on not being able to use the analog side, kind of makes the cheaper Avermedia more appealing. Then again, my PC can't provide the horsepower needed for it at this point and, more importantly, you're doing the coding to give us this additional wonderful support Smile I think I already know the answer to the next question (I'm dreaming), will MVP be supported in some manner?

I could, but I just dont want to. As I've said all along in this project, I just dont want to look at the software encoding option. Software encoding sucks.

Huh? Are you asking if the MVP will play HDTV stream? If so, the answer is no.

Don't blame you on the encoding stuff. I'm not looking for HD through the MVP (would be cool) but being able to play what it has recorded in normal mode. I don't know what format it will be put on disk in and whether it will be playable at all on the MVP.
