gEd

Thanks for your imput. Just tried the live HD channels and report no problems, Very interesting, Will record a couple on HD tomorrow and assess the results.
The reason I don't use HD normally is that if the weather turns quite bad there's a lot of pixelation etc. Having said that, the weather, compared to my present problems, it might be worth giving it a go.
Don't understand the technical differences in working with SD v HD on UK Freeview but, what the hell, I'll give it a go tomorrow. ("Time for bed said Zebedee")
Looks quite promising. Thanks again

Many thanks gEd for your suggestion

Recorded a couple of programmes on HD this morning and they play back without any problems - no lagging at the start and no lagging when I skip forward during playback.
Live HD TV is also fine. Incidently, I didn't change any of my decoder settings.

So I intend to use the HD channels as my default recording and live viewing from now on and hope we don't get much severe weather.

I also recorded several programmes on SD and they still have all the lagging problems.
If there's anyone that can figure out what is wrong with the SD I'd appreciate it.

The only difference that I can see is that the HD channels will be using the Microsoft decoders ... I suggest trying again to get the Microsoft decoders that can be used with HD ... via the "matthill" link above ... the link works for me.

Hallelujah - Graham you're a genius. Tried the matthill with four browsers and still no luck. Managed to get it on my phone and email it to myself.
Followed the instructions and the Microsoft decoders were all there.
Selected them all and WOW! - perfect for both HD & SD - and both live TV and recordings. I am so, so made up - thank you so much.

Thanks to everyone for their help and advice. Believe me, it is greatly appreciated.

How do I mark this as solved?
