I reconfigured the capture source to pick up the audio from my audio card's line in (I already have a cable connecting the win tv line out to the PC audio line in) - see screenshots in attached doc.

I can now record ok - but when I play back there is no sound.
I have sound ok in live tv mode

Checked logs and they look ok do sign of errors

Also noticed the recordings look a little too blue ?
Check a previous post which someone mentioned their recording was a little too blue...Tried to execute gbpvrrecording service from command prompt but my system wont allow it. Any suggestions?
(I've been trying to upload a .doc and a zip file but not getting confirmation the upload is going ok...will try again later)

Still trying to upload the zip file containing the screenshots. Anyway I have video capture card set as Hauupauge win tv capture and audio capture card as NVidiar.
However the recording source is still set to video tuner, audio tuner.
IF I try and set recording source to svideo, line 1 I cant get anything to work - no picture. I suspect tha to use svideo input, line 1 option I have to have a cable connecting the svideo out of the tv card to may graphics card and the tv audio out connected to line 1 in of my graphics card. I can only connect the audio as I dont have an svideo connection input on my graphics card. Confirm please , but it looks like I will either have to get the win tv drivers to work correctly and provide video and audio via the tuner option or get another graphics card so I can connect svideo output from tv card with a cable to graphices card....

If you want to send screenshots, rather make then gif, jpg or png, then zip them together and attach. Your attachment must be less than 300kb.

maybe your volume is turned down, try holding down the right arrow when playing the video. Alternativly test in timeshift mode.

can you send the logs anyways, it might shine light on why there's no sound.

the records being blue i havn't been able to figure out yet. Are you using PAL or NTSC? I'm guessing that the HUE setting wants changing but there's no frontend for it. You have to specify the command line paramter to get the recording service to start directly otherwise it won't work.

The SVideo option is to watch/record SVideo _input_ on your computer. So you can connect for example a camera. If you connected your video card's svideo out to the capture card then you would get wierd feedback. The recording source selection is setting the crossbar settings (i.e. which input is recorded). So if you connect it up this way you could record what you do on the computer. You want to be using tuner.

Here's some screenshots I've been trying to upload.
I think the problem was that the file size was too big so I've removed a couple of screenshots I took of the "blue" recording!

Will have another go with this tonight and post logs

I've downloaded and installed the latest XP WDM drivers and Win 2000 application for Win TV PCI cards. This seems to have fixed the audio problem as I can now record and play back with sound.
I need educating on how to change channel though.. I know I cant use the tuning assistant as my capture card is not listed.

I seem to be stuck on a single channel in live preview mode. If I want to change channels to record I need to stop gbpvr bring up wintv 2000 and select the channel I want to record. I then close wintv 2000 bring up GBPVR and view the same channel in Live mode. Doesnt matter what I chose in the tv listing it will only record the channel I see in live tv mode.
When I 'am in live TV mode I can using the little happuage remote and I can move through the channels listed in the sub menu within Live tv.
However Live tv remains stuck on this channel.

What do I have to do to change change channels with Live tv ?
Sounds like something isnt configured right.

I have ordered an MVP from Dabs.It will be plugged into our TV in the downstairs lounge and connected via a lan cable and router to our main pc in the loft which has the wintv capture card. Once its set up I hope to be able to use MVP to bring up gbpvr on the TV ,change channels to whatever I want and schedule recordings. :¬)

Good to hear that the latest drivers have fixed things.

Try changing the Tuning setting in the config dialog to either Cable or Antenna (which ever is correct for you). If the tuning is set to None, then it doesn't even try and tune. (which is often good for s-video, but not for tuner)

normanr,
I wanted to say you are doing a fine job keeping up with this and supporting everyone's problems.
I have yet to install everything here but will give it a try after some game time. I just spent the last 3 hours reading this thread and never saw any free encoders suggested. will any of these work?

QuEnc
Freenc
hcenc

I found them mentioned @ Doom9 Site Encoding
And Here Google IT

Quotes from the encoders own home pages:
QuEnc: "being a very simple program, only supports AviSynth input"
Freeenc: "Takes avisynth scripts as input"
hcenc: "Input can be a d2v project or input using Avisynth."

Unfortunately to make an encoder work with gb-pvr it needs to exist as a module that can be inserted into a DirectShow graph. GraphEdit is a program that can be used to create your own graphs and link up components. As a rule of thumb, IF-AND-ONLY-IF the encoder can be used in GraphEdit (and it takes video and audio of some form, and it also has to output the mpeg stream for further use - and not write it directly to a file), then it can be used in gb-pvr.

(This has already been mentioned in the thread in post 398)

Hi all,

Tried out the WDM Compressor with a Pinnacle PCTV Rave and it works great excepting for the blue tinge problem. I built a graph and it turns out that its a colour space problem on the Pinnacle WDM PCTV Video Capture:Capture pin (see attached graph image), in that the colour space used should be YUV2 (normal colour tones) instead of YV12 (blue colour tones).

My brother tried the WDM Compressor on his WINTV card and the colour space was correct.

It looks like the colour space has to be setup as part of the graph for PCTV's at least.

tipstir: see post #427: "it definitely won't work until i get time to stick in recording quality settings".

HTPC-guy: 1000 points for figuring this one out. I've added it to the to-do list.
