Technically using config.xml is specifying the port. If the machine is strongly hardened there is no real way to guarantee that NextEnd could communicate with NextPVR to reschedule the recording so I don't turning of the check is a workable solution. The logic for the check was to avoiding spamming the NextEnd server, the web sites it calls with calls when there is no NextPVR service available.

It's not turning off the check, it's the user specifying where to check. If the user can just point the plugin to the ip it should try and continue to grab the port from config.xml (or allow the user to specify the port as well, optionally) then things should be ok.

But now I'm wondering... based on the output, it must have been able to query the nextpvr server to determine the game details, right? How was it able to query the game details at the start but then fail this check that causes it to bail?

NextEnd is designed only to run on the server so an IP isn't needed, it is never used or checked, just that check for open port. NextEnd uses undocumented NextPVR C# library API so some calls will use the database directly, I am not sure how they actually are implemented. I am just grateful that sub allowed this to work for over a decade from v3 to v7 without me having to change much.

That's unfortunate, thanks for the details. Guess it's 3 hour padding on all sports recordings instead.

Or you can fix your setup, VPN or whatever that is doing the blocking.

And just to confirm, I wrote a quick C# app that makes the GetActiveTcpListeners() call and sure enough it throws a System.UnauthorizedAccessException on this box. A little more digging and, indeed, access to the active listeners list on the system is restricted. Static padding on the recordings it is!
