I don't think port 8080 works, lol.

No....you can't turn off the web interface.....EWA uses that to allow you to control VLC (stop, pause, etc).

I really think you are still back at square one.......you need two ports....and one of them can not be 8080.

You are using 443 for EWA so you need one more port to assign to VLC.

So how do I check which programs at work are using which ports?

I understand Netstat -a shows you which ports are being used, and netstat -b shows the programs running on each port... but Netstat -b didn't work at my office. I entered it into the command prompt and it just gave me like a key of commands for the netstat function.

Aright, I'll give this a whirl on Monday. A little confused though.

PROCESS PROTOCOL LOCAL ADD. REMOTE ADD. STATE
avp.exe:### TCP BRIAN:#### BRIAN:### LISTENING

I get a line like that when I start TCPView. Which is the port being used? My goal will be to run this at work, find a program that I do not really need, close it and use that port... just not sure which is the port. Is it the 964 or is it the port shown in Local Address or Remote Address? Some of the programs running have a number in Remote Address besides that "0."

Well... I tried using this TCPView program but couldn't get EWA streaming working.

I viewed what was running and saw that there were two Windows Messenger processes in TCPView. One showing remote port 80 and another showing remote port 33083. I tried ending the Windows Messenger process and then I tried using those ports, but it didn't work. I also tried this methods with a couple other processes.

Does anyone know any other port or something that would work to figure out how to use another port?

Is my only option at this point to use something like a HTTP Tunnel or set up a SSH server and tunnel to my computer (very confusing)?

Does anyone know an easy way to set that up?

I don't think a tunnel would work either. You would still not have any additional port.

Have you seen this test:
http://jfirewalltest.michael-gardiner.qa...load2.html
not sure if its been posted already.

Its a good test, but you have to configure the client machine to listen on the ports to test before running it. One way to do that might be to set up vlc to stream from the client on the port(s) you want to test. Then run the app above.

If you don't set up some program to listen on the client, you would only be testing ports that are already taken for other apps/services.

Well couldn't I do a tunnel on the one port that I know works (443)?

That firewall test doesn't work here because I don't think we have java installed.

I am not an expert on tunnels, but I don't think they create virtual ports or something. You still need the server machine to put up two services on different ports and be able to access both from the client machine.

On the java app, sorry. Perhaps you could use one of the other tests that run from an internet server. The key is to open the port to test on the client before running the test. The advantage of testing this way is it doesn't involve changing ports on the server for the purpose of the test. All the testing is on the client side. It would still be a slow process of opening client ports to test.

Aright, well maybe someone can just clarify this for me...

If I start recording a show that is happening right now through the EWA...

Then go to manage my recordings and click PLAY program, it starts to play then stops after a few seconds. I understand that this is playing through EWA and not VLC which is why it is working... but why does it stop after a few secs? It seems to do this with all my previous recordings.

This is basically recording it and letting me watch it with a minor delay?
