for Canadian users TitanTV suggests using a zip code of a nearby US city that may have the same channel availability...so you'd have to live close to a US city...
and then they want you to customize the channels yourself, adding and removing the ones you can't get by callsign....

Or just move! Smile
Really, that's not a helpful answer from them but I guess they have no other answers to give us.

Keith.Bassett Wrote:I actually wrote them a note earlier, to see if they had plans to embrace the open source alternatives like mythtv.

Their response was:
Thank you for considering TitanTV.com. At this time we are not
considering offering this service to open source DVRs. Or making
anything available to replace Zap2It. Let me know if I can answer any
other questions for you.

So, if we want our stuff to generate uuids we need to figure out what the partnerid, productid and versionid for our actual hardware is so that we aren't violating their terms.

Surely the purchase of a hauppage and receipt of wintv is enough to use the corresponding license legally...

They seem to have a deal with most of the popular capture card manufacturers, so we just need to figure out how to use their interface to generate a viable uuid using the ids for the particular manufacturer of our cards.

hauppage users of the world unite!

Then has anyone asked Hauppauge if they can get us a UUID that will work for this solution? They could have some simple code to check to make sure we have one of their cards. That would be a BIG marketing boost for them if you have to have their card to get an epg in the US. I know Sub has connections with Hauppauge, but he is busy on 1.0X. Does anyone else have an in with Hauppauge?

I'm not asking them. This wouldnt be covered in their licensing of data from TitanTV.

That fixed the duplicates and loaded the info in the guide. I am not sure what decides tht sorting order but they do not appear to be in order of the channel when displayed in the guide. There is also some symbols in the describtions and titles(screen shoot atteched.

ioan Wrote:here is a new version that should fix the duplicate channel problem. I'm using the rf_channel as channel id now. please let me know if this works.
I was able to bring down the listings but no channel numbers are shown (I expected this) and, when using the TV Guide to 'Watch' a channel, it was snow and not the correct channel even though the program info at the bottom was correct.
However, if I type in a channel (say 45, SciFi) the correct channel is displayed but no Guide info at the bottom.
You guys are doing a great job and it's appreciated.

Those "symbols" are hex character codes. The one that I had earlier in the version id for eyetv was %2e Which turns out to be '.' W/ a simple transform of the hex codes to the regular ascii codes it should clear up the "symbols in the epg" issues.

Also, the straightforward method with Titan seems like an idea to try. Simply log into the web interface, register, then plug your registration into the partnerpages interface to find out what your UUID is.

We will need to find the productid and versionid for the cards that they list during the registration process, but that may be a viable way to generate legal ids using the cards that we own.

I have to agree with Sub on the licensing thing. We are treading a fine line, and should play it carefully so that they don't come after the project.

What about the wintv registry settings? Is there a unique UUID set up in there for each of us that sets it up w/ titan?

If we could register through it, legally, then capture our personal data and transmit it into the translator for future use... We might even be able to reference the wintv registry settings directly with the titanxml program for the info.

I guess the point of this longwinded post is that we should try to generate our uuids in an above board manner.

@ Keith- That is a good idea, but unfortunatly it does not work. Unless I am wrong, the UUID that you get in your regestry does not work for this purpose. It only works for the online to scheduler update from Titan to Hauppauge WinTV scheduler. We need a different kind of UUID that works to get an EPG download. It appears that these are special and reserved for paying companies. Unfortunatly, the way we are now, ioan's great work will be for not if they cancel the UUID he is using. This will likely happen if the entire community starts using the same UUID.

it sounds like the channel numbers are not getting set in the xmlTV file, which would result in garbage numbers for all of your channels, and garbage when you try to tune them. make sure that the XMLTV file actually contains channel numbers for the channels... sub might have an answer for this one as well if I am mistaken Smile

cheers
