Sorry, I can't tell you if it's intermittent. I haven't been monitoring it that closely until the last few days.

I am planning on completely disabling my firewall tonight to eliminate that as a possible cause for the problem.

It seems that UltraXMLTV_Enchancer is hanging eh?

Make sure you're using the latest version (1.2.127)... I've written a lot of checking and errorhandling, so that even if the servers are crapping out, Ultra will continue after very short timeouts.

For the record IF Ultra does not complete, the original xmltv file that was downloaded will not be modified or renamed or replaced, and will still be available for EPG Update, it just won't have been enhanced.

In other words, you wake up to a hung UltraXMLTV, and you kill it in task manager, GB-PVR will continue in it's UpdateEPG.bat and then try to update the epg with the original XMLTV file.

If you guys can either kill the instance and see what happens, or remove Ultra from the EPG.bat, that would show you whether you are getting new data from Schedules Direct...

I am running the latest version of UltraXMLTV_Enhancer. I've attached the log to theis message. My EPG is set to update at 1:00am. It appears to me that the log is saying that the program completed successfully.

I do see an instance of UltraXMLTV_Enhancer.exe still in memory 19 hours after it was last run.

Since I want to try one thing at a time, I am running tonight with the firewall completely disabled. If I still have the problem tomorrow I will try deleting it with the Task Manager.

It Wasn't The Firewall. I can now say that access permissions to files etc was clearly not at issue in my problem with the EPG not updating automatically.

I disabled the firewall for last night's scheduled EPG update and it still didn't run successfully to completion. My observation is based on recording-dump.xml not being updated.

Since UltraXMLTV_Enhancer.exe stayed in memory all day yesterday, I will try eliminating that from my Update EPG bat files for tonight's run and see if the problem still exists.

More background on my version of this problem: It turns out that I put my personal logging into UpdateEPG a few months ago. I checked those logs, and saw that UpdateEPG would intermittently fail to automatically run. I'd see successful runs for perhaps 10-20 days, then it would stop and there would be a gap of anything from a few days to a week.
I suspect after a week, I saw the TiVo message and then fixed it. The short failures may have been fixed by a reboot. I don't reboot very often.

One thing of interest is that I logged both the start and stop of the batch file. During a failure I'd see a start, but not a stop, then no more starts - I presume that's consistent with some program hanging? When I checked yesterday, I saw that it had started two nights before, but not finished, and had not run one night before. I did look in memory, but saw nothing unusual. Today I remembered that we'd had a power failure, which would have cleaned out a hung program from memory.

I'll do some more debug tonight.

sub, Can I "speed up" testing by just moving the time for the automatic update (via changing the time in CONFIG) to be an hour or so from now and then try something else after that by moving the time again?

What I don't know is if the automatic update tries to run and it has been only an hour or so since the last run whether the results of any changes I try will be tainted. Otherwise, I can only try one thing a day and then wait until the next day to see if it had any effect.

You can change it as many times as you like. It doesnt matter if runs more than once a day.

Thanks. I don't really have the patience to wait 24 hours each time I make a change trying to run down this problem.

The reason I asked is an app I use (Pocket TV Browser) doesn't do the download if it has alreadydone it for the day. This anopmaly turned out to be really helpful because although Pocket TV Browser is no longer supported by the author I am able to run a desktop applicatin I wrote, which is similar to UltraXMLTV Enhancer, to add additional information into the listings that get downloaded to my PDA.

Isn't the "update epg" command from the gbpvr tray-icon the same as the automatic update scheduled in config"?
AMD Athlon 64 3000, HDD: 80, 120, 200 GB, Hauppauge 350 + 150, MVP, Asus 6000L Laptop client, Asus X50sl client,
Fritz!box 7140 modem/router, GBPVR 1.3.7.
