I'd be happy to look into this -- I realize GBPVR is not open-source..

Is the USB-UIRT support implemented as a plugin(s)?

Thanks,

Jon

@sub:

Would you recommend another device which CAN be used as both receiver AND blaster reliably in GB-PVR?

If you can also provide some links that would be awsome, too.

Thanks in advance,

You can probably use the USB-UIRT as a receiver, but you'll probably need to use some other software like Girder.

I just use the PVR150 remote.

Yeah, I was thinking of adding a USB-UIRT as the IR Blaster, and a Sapphire Theatrix 550 as the second capture card, and keep using the Hauppauge 34-button remote that came with my Hauppauge-350 (my current capture card). The price for this combination is extremely low.
However, there are a few things that still bother me:
1. You said the 350 doesn't support live-preview mode.
2. The Theatrix 550's remote isn't supported (and I kind of wanted a larger remote).
3. Is the problem of bitrates in the Theatrix finally solved?
And BTW, you mentioned a different device, similar to USB-UIRT in the past. Which was it?
Thanks,
GGF

1) the PVR350 does support live preview, but not when you're using it's TV out.
2) true
3) I dont know. The video bitrates certainly work for me, but there was reports from a couple of people that bitrates didnt work for them. There as been no changes to this in this release, so I'm guessing it still doesnt work for them.

Why dont you just buy a PVR150. Surely its cheaper than a 550 + USB-UIRT?

Hi Sub,
Well, USB-UIRT (assuming I buy the $50 version) will cost me $70 with shipping, which is about 322 nis (Israeli currency - New Israeli Shekel) - assuming I don't pay customs for low price.
I can get a Theatrix for 480 nis, so my total is about 800 nis. This is a bit lower than the price they sell PVR150 in Israel (around 830-900 nis).

Also, while the benefits of 150 are clear - I get the larger remote, and the blaster, and I know for sure there are people with this combination working for them, the disadvantages are problematic. I ask myself the following:
  1. Will the 150's blaster will support the cable and satellite boxes I have? If they are not supported by BlastCfg - I'm dead. Is there a list somewhere? Also - these boxes are branded with my cable provider's name and satellite provider's names. It may be difficult to find out which model they are like...
  2. The 150's blaster, how long is its cable? Will it reach my satellite box? (Anyone out there with a PVR150 willing to measure it? I use metric, but inches are fine too).
  3. The USB-UIRT can simply transmit a very strong singal, and control both boxes, and probably other equipment too. I get the sense that the 150's blaster is probably something similar to the 350's IR receiver "eye", which means it should be attached to a single set-top-box, and I won't be able to control the other box. Is this right?
Thanks,
GGF

Sub - have you removed support for USB-UIRT input in the latest release? It seems not to accept any signals when I try to learn from within configure.exe.

Please consider NOT removing the support - It helps reduce the remote clutter on the coffee table :-)

I didnt remove, or change the support in the latest release. It still seems to work ok for me, so I'm sure its working for some others as well. That said, I wont be actively trying to resolve any bugs relating to using the USB-UIRT as an input device.

Bump - my USB-UIRT still stops responding (used as a blaster only). It seems to occur the most after I have been watching recordings.

I am thinking the troubles I am seeing with my set-top-box recordings may be explained by similar symptoms. Anyone got an idea?
Thanks,
GGF
