"advanced"
Multi servers - possibly, but just knowing the ability is there is valuable. Aids a painless hardware upgrade.
Alternate remotes - essential for those upgrading from an MVP. The Hauppauge remote is much more PVR oriented than the NMT remote.

(and I must have half a dozen Hauppauge remotes here from the tuners and stuff I have).

What does "If you are using the CSI to install to the NMT disk you can skip the next two steps" mean in the first section of the Dummies guide? What is "CSI"?

Also from the dummies guide: "The install program will open PVRX2.exe and GBPVRRecordingService.exe through the Windows Firewall on your local subnet. You have to manage other firewalls yourself". What about NextPVR?

CSI is "The NMT Community Software Installer" http://www.nmtinstaller.com/ and it allows installing of the mvpmcx2 client directly on an NMT hard drive and installes a link on the services tab that great simplifies the install process. It eliminates the three most difficult processes in the installation, configuration of a Windows Share, need for a linux editor, and the proper configuration of the link.

For the firewall I do the same commands with NSIS for the NextPVR components but I never received feedback on whether it works or not, and since I no longer use the Windows firewall I can't confirm it myself.

So if the NMT CSI installs mvpmcx2, why do people need NMTInstall2.exe?

McBainUK,

I have a (currently) unused NMT here if it would help your understanding, I am more than willing to stick it in the post on loan for a bit. Let me know.

The goal of and NMTInstall was to completely install a working GBPVR/NPVR setup in about 5-10 minutes downloading all the pre-requisites as shown on the wiki including all the patches for the version. That part works pretty well, but it was never a success because of the complexity of getting GBPVR and NPVR to work with the tuner and EPG.

For people that have NextPVR installed, that part of NMTInstall isn't required but some config.xml setting are still required which it does for you.

For someone starting from scratch (just a plain PC with no PVR at all), it works extremely well.

Think just teething troubles. As I said in a previous post this is a really hard bit of the wiki to nail, hence why I never bothered, and tbh you kind of gave up a little after putting so many endless hours/work into it! It will happen if we all hang together Big Grin

cheers
