Quote:[edit]Still get error message when attempting to play the same file via RDP session on the WHS. So is this due to lack of Video/Audio capabilities?

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

Some old versions of remote desktop (server) had odd limitations like this when playing video. You're not going to end up watching video via remote desktop, so just ignore this. Alternatively you could try switching to another video renderer. You might find one that behaves better over your old remote desktop.

Okay.

I have managed to share ...\NPVR folder out using an Advanced Admin utility within the WHS console. But having changed the share setting on my laptop version of NPVR to point to the new location I now get...

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Any ideas???

Have added a final "\" to the share path and the above error goes away :-)

Still have the issue that my laptop client version of NPVR just sits there forever when I click the recorded file to play. The timeline popup shows a start of 00:00:00 but the end of the timeline says 16702:39:02 ???

I can play the very same file from the network share using VLC MP on my laptop.

[edit]And if I attempt to play the same recording again via the client NPVR on my laptop the end of the timeline says 05419:53:47

[edit2]Have now gone back and deleted the npvr.db3 file that was left in the network share folder for the recorded programmes and now when I attempt to play the new recording the timeline displays 00:00:00 for both start and end. Still doesn't play though :-(

I ask again what do you have your decoders set to post logs of laptop after trying to play file

You said vlc had pixels this may show that the recording was pretty rubbish and you have a crap signal this can also cause big numbers in the timeline

Have you allowed nrecord.exe through the firewall on the server? I recommend that you allow nrecord.exe and npvr.exe through the firewall on both client and server ... it may be overkill but it minimises potential problems.

The "server" requires minimal oomph to record. It is doing little more than "copying" the broadcast stream unaltered from the tuner to the disk.

The "client" needs to have the DirectX full install ... http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post473613

VLC uses a different playback mechanism than NextPVR. What happens when you attempt playback on the client using Windows Media Player?

The log looks like you're trying to play a recording on a client, but you've either got the wrong server name entered, or that server has got firewall software blocking request. The log shows it failing to connect to the server.

Doesn't NPVR force the Firewall pop-up to either allow or refuse connections? I've not seen a request to let anything through??

NextPVR doesn't have anything to do with showing firewall popups. It just uses the network connections it needs to use. Any popup is the responsibility of your firewall software.

Some firewall software only popups for outgoing connections. Some firewalls aren't good at showing popups for software running as a service etc.
