If you've followed earlier directions to thumbnails to None you probably don't need to wait.

Agreed but during recording with NextPVR.exe logs should be very quiet anyway.

Here is my best description of what I did. Rebooted the PC. Checked that nothing running. Started NextPVR.EXE. Worked with 2 recordings. No tuners were recording, and had closed caption turned OFF. Recording 1. Started perfectly. No hiccups. No delay. Used the mouse to move to several minutes ahead. Perfect. Instant - no delay or stutter. Moved all the way to the 2 hour point with mouse .. again perfect. Moved back one hour and then back to the beginning .. tried my best to BREAK it but it worked perfect. Stopped the video. Reopened again and this time tested navigation but with the thumbnail option and KB directional arrows. Moved Icon selection forward, back etc. short long, and it again was virtually INSTANT with no problems. Could not make it exhibit the normal stuttering etc. I normally have. So next I tried a different video which happened to be another one that was recorded the same time as video #1. Recording 2. Browsed to recording #2 and started it. From the start video was stuttering very bad for about 10 seconds and everything was in "slow motion". After it stopped stuttering the playback worked normal. Then did same testing as I did with video #1. Every time I used the mouse to move the playing position I had delays and stuttering. Every time it would eventually smooth out and then play normal until I try to move the playing position . This is how it has "normally" been working for past couple weeks. So I switch from using the mouse to drag the position to by using the thumbnails. And THEN found NO thumbnails would display. Right and left arrows DID move the pointer and each time the stuttering and slow down would happen. But the thumbnails were not displaying. So far video 1 was "unbreakable" and worked every time. But video #2 has all kinds of problems. I then went back to video 1 and double checked that and it continues to play perfectly. Both videos were recorded during the same period earlier today on two different channels. Remember this PC is NEVER turned off or rebooted. However today I DID reboot it before starting the video playback tests. BTW I'll bet you a beer that the logs are gonna say the LAV codec still isn't installed. Heck I already owe you guys a case of beer .. <grin>

Maybe put video #2 on onedrive/googledrive, and let me know a download link, and I'll try playing it here.

Jen Psski was a one hour show recorded today July 9, from 12 to 1 PM. It was recorded alone at the time with no other recordings being done. However it's start and finish had a one minute over lap from a prior recording finishing at it's start and a one minute over lap at the end by another recording that was starting at that time. WNBA Ball game was one of two long recordings also recorded today. The LONG recording (which NOT was part of my test) started at 4 PM and ended at 7 PM. During that time the 2nd recording (WNBA that included in the test) was recorded on a 2nd tuner from 3 PM to 5 PM. Jen Psaki one hour show is the one with the problems and I just tried it a few minutes ago and is still bad. WNBA 2 hour show also still plays perfectly (just stopped to test it again as I'm writing this and it's still playing perfect).

Thanks Jen Psaki doesn't have timings or thumbs because you changed to parallel during the recording. You recorded it first and watched it second which is why I asked.
I'd like to have a link to it as well. Does creating thumbnails under the manage option make it skip better? Martin

Sorry I don't remember WHEN I changed it. But IT was turned OFF (so thumbnails were being generated after the recordng was finished.) I turned it off a while back (maybe a couple days ago) to see if had any efffect on things. I recall now the change didn't make any difference. So I turned it back ON ... Just don't remember when I turned it back on. BUT it IS now tured on and doing thumbnail gen. in real time AND I'm pretty sure it's BEEN on while both those test recordings were made and of course while I was doing the testing. I'll continue to leave it running to generate thumbnails while recording. I don't "do " google. Or "one drive" etc. I can set up something so both you guys can get the video(s) if needed. The Jen Psaki one hour video is over 1.7 GB so that might pose a problem? I have a few video editors here and one of them I think will allow me to do a simple trimmng without it doing any encoding. So I can find a 5 minute portion and cut that out for ya. Oh I actually still have a saved recording of that same show from a few months ago (recorded May 21, 2023) which was recorded with NextPVR version 4. Same channel and tuner. But with NPVR version 4 and an older version of win 11 . AND I should note that both of those shows play perfectly with four different media players. It might be interesting to take a look at the old version with THIS new version Nextpvr. I might have to move it to the new NextPVR "video folder" and see I can play it with the NPVR video thing? Do you know how I could get it "imported" back into my normall recorded shows folder so NPVR will see it ? It DOES work error free with any 3rd party player. And of course the new Jen P. show I'm currently testing also does play perfectly in any other media player. Strange ..

I'll continue to leave it running to generate thumbnails while recording. The reason we originally asked you to turn this off is because it is noticeable CPU load added when extracting thumbnails. For most machines it's not a problem, but with a slower machine, if you're trying to do two recordings, and also trying to watch video in the web app (like you were earlier), this seemed to be causing too much CPU load and your machine wasn't keeping up, causing your playback to the browser to stop/start. This type of activity may also interfere to a lesser degree with playback inside nextpvr.exe, which is why I suggested testing playback while not recording. (so that each time you're testing in the same conditions, without random stuff going on in the background sucking cpu) Quote:I don't "do " google.
