There are some versions of rename with the "S" on the end, and some without. I found that the one with the "S" works better for me.
Read through the rather long original renamerecording thread for more info.

I'll have to check it out. I just assumed that I had typed it incorrectly when I changed the command to output the log into my soon to be deleted originals folder.

Hi,

I apologize if this is totally the wrong place for this question, but this thread seems darn near perfect for what I'm trying to do...

Full disclosure: I don't use GBPVR, I use BeyondTV, but really that has more to do with my own idiocy than anything else. I'm a "does better if it works right out of the box" kinda guy. </caveat>

That said, I *do* use VideoReDo, and love it. I've identified a freeware app called AutoVRD that will watch any given directory and then auto-run VRD's Ad-Detective feature on any completed files, outputting a standard *.vprj file. So currently, I have my HDTV recordings in one directory, and then another folder with all of the corresponding *.vprj files that contain the commercial cut locations.

What I want to do is to use a script to look at those files and have VRD do a Save As... to the *.tp format, outputting the final, commercial-free files in a different directory. (This directory would be watched by the new beta of Dr. DivX, which would then auto-compress the commercial-free *.ts files down to *.avi files of specific dimensions, size, and quality...but that's neither here nor there.)

So all that said, I think your script will do this--however, I don't use ShowAnalyzer or ComSkip (or, if VRD is running either of these in the background, I'm unaware of it). My question is, how would I modify this script to account for me not using either SA or ComSkip? I don't need to do any file renaming, in case that makes a difference.

Can anyone recommend any tweaks to the script discussed in this thread that would allow me to do this?

Many, many thanks in advance. I'm not super tech, but if you explain things to me, I'll get 'em, and more importantly, I write documentation for a living, so I'll be happy to write a guide to this whole process (a draft exists here, just so you know I'm for real) if anyone's interested.

If you're getting the .vprj file, then you just need to have videoredo run automatically.
I would think the .vprj files need to be in the same folder as the recordings, then videoredo will output the commercial free file, which you can then pass on to any other processing.
In your specific case, you have videoredo doing the work, after being called by AutoVRD, which outputs the .vprj
You would then call videoredo to open the .vprj and actually make the cuts, then saving a commercial free file in the folder of your choice.
Try something like DirMon, which monitors any folder for specific changes, and when they appear, can call an application to run.
Breakdown:
AutoVRD creates the .vprj
DirMon detects the .vprj and runs videoredo again, to cut commercials and outputs the file to a folder of your choice.
DrDivx detects the new file, and does the transcoding.

It's possible you could shorten the process, and have videoredo cut commercials in a 2 pass process and write the file to your DrDivx folder.
This would involve modifying the AutoVRD in some way, to not just detect commercials, but to remove them and save a new file.

I've recently been having problems with comclean (audio sync issues), so I decided to give videoredo a try. Only problem is, I can't get it to run silently. The videoredo gui pops when it is called for processing. Is this normal? Is there a way to get it to run completely in the background like comclean?

This seems like exactly what I'm looking for!! One question though, has anyone had any trouble with post processing eliminating anything from a recording of a movie from a commercial free channel like HBO, Showtime, Cinemax etc? Thanks!!

You'll have to try it and see on your setup, but, I have found that comskip always seems to be very conservatve. The few errors that I have had with this setup have always left commercials intact rather than deleting parts of the show. I don't subscribe to any premium channels like HBO, but my recordings from PBS without commercials have always come through fine.

I've been using ShowAnalyzer with great results. As dgeezer stated, a few times it's left short commercials in but never removed any of the actual show video from my captures.

I see the VideoRedo window popup when its cutting the commercials. Its usually not too annoying, but I also know that I cannot use the remote during this time since the taskbar has priority. Anyone else having this problem?

Thanks,
Drew

I kinda thought it was a feature. Because the cutting process takes so much CPU power, it's probably best left to finish, before doing anything else.
Because videoredo is generally quite fast, I have noticed what you mention, but never thought of it as a "problem".
