If I start recording a show that is happening right now through the EWA...

Then go to manage my recordings and click PLAY program, it starts to play then stops after a few seconds. I understand that this is playing through EWA and not VLC which is why it is working... but why does it stop after a few secs? It seems to do this with all my previous recordings.

This is basically recording it and letting me watch it with a minor delay?

Maybe because the server is trying to use the same port for both EWA and VLC? What have you configured them to in this example?

My EWA is set to use port 443 to access the webadmin. That has been working fine. I can do everything in the EWA outside of streaming. Recording works fine... and so on. I changed the VLC port back to 7648 because I have given up for the time being in regards to getting the streaming working and that is the default port.

If I play a video that wasn't recorded, but rather just saved on my harddrive from the Videos tab, it plays without stopping, although stutters a bit.

Dude, you dont have a port problem. Both EWA and VLC ports are being accessed fine. The playability problem of the stream on the client is something else, could be bandwidth limits or just lost packets. When you start playing a video on the client look at the statistics tab? I think its called. It will show if you are dropping packets.

I don't see anything in regards to dropping packets.

The menu choice to see it is view->stream and media info, statistics tab. Did you look there?

One more thought. If you are seeing a difference between live tv and playing a recorded file, it suggests to me the server is bogging down trying to transcode for vlc and record at the same time.

It looks like that it is losing a lot of audio buffers. I am also losing some video frames. Like it was just up to 6745 frames displayed and I've lost 108 frames.

What is the video bitrate you are streaming? It is a setting on the EWA config tab. I have a hard time receiving even 128 kbps at the office. That is the lowest setting.

You might want to try TCPOptimizer on the server and perhaps the client too. Its a little utility to adjust network settings. I don't have a link handy, you can google it, or search the forums here for more info...

I am streaming at 128. I'll have to try that prog.

If I stream VLC independently then it works fine.

Hmmm, so when you use vlc alone to stream it, it is obviously transcoding differently or using a different protocol or something.
