mvallevand Wrote:I still thinking about the the need to separate compilations when MB4 will do it for you. It seems like a lot of work for little gain. I am not saying its wrong, I am also trying to understand why Jaggy is doing this.

Well there are/were a number of reasons.

Firstly I should say I have a largish collection of music (over 16,000 tracks I now know after looking at the logs & that is only 50% of my vinyl turn into digital it should close to double that sometime  )
Then I don't want my Christmas songs in the normal mix as MB4 thinks of them as a compilation & it throws them into the compilations list & this stuffs up playing random all compilations. So no matter what, I have to have collections.
With the way MB4 did things (until today) there was no way to get rid of the compilation artists from the main artist list & that made it rather painful to look at/navigate.

I am still playing with the new version so I won't comment on it at the moment.

Thanks for the comments Jaggy, I will wait for you to play around a bit. It is the use case for having an entire collection for compilations that I am trying to understand.

Note to avoid surprises you can exclude all files in a folder from generic random play by placing a file norandom.txt in the folder's hierarchy,

Any obvious reason for around 5000 lines of these errors when scanning?

2011-05-27 16:11:27.787 [ERROR][1] MusicBox4: Read file error: Method not found: 'HundredMilesSoftware.UltraID3Lib.ID3v23Tag HundredMilesSoftware.UltraID3Lib.UltraID3.get_ID3v23Tag()'.

at the end of scanning....

2011-05-27 16:15:45.935 [INFO][1] MusicBox4: Library Scan Completed; Songs Loaded= 4794 = 2
2011-05-27 16:15:45.935 [INFO][1] MusicBox4: Library Scan Completed; Songs Loaded= 4794; Duration per song= 54 ms; Total Duration=261800 ms
2011-05-27 16:15:45.936 [DEBUG][1] MusicBox4: Finished Update

If it is saying my MP3's are duff, any suggestions on something to list and/or fix them?

Could you email one of the problem files and I will have a look.

I am speculating that it is a recent ID3v23 tag causing an issue, so a newly tagged file should do it.

Thanks.. I will have to narrow it down to try to find a directory and then a file as I haven't played with tags AFAIK... more later...

If it is too much trouble, you can also turn insane logging on and it should tell you the filename.

That is what I was thinking of trying in the morning, having guessed it would be very comprehensive Wink

mvallevand Wrote:Further to the discussions in this thread, I have uploaded a new version of MB4 with new View Options which give your choice of

- either show All Artists or Filter Artist to not list artists in compilations in the Artist View
- either show Compilations only or All Albums in the Album Via

I also optimized text searching via the remote a little, to save a few keystrokes. Navigating by text is an important part of the MB4 design.

These are currently not saved as I try and understand how this will be used.

Martin

Trying this out....so far so good....I like the Filter Artists - All Albums

Thanks.....for me this feature makes it far more usable to get to my base music still with the option to go back to a global music.
