NMT and MVP documentation

The goal of and NMTInstall was to completely install a working GBPVR/NPVR setup in about 5-10 minutes downloading all the pre-requisites as shown on the wiki including all the patches for the version. That part works pretty well, but it was never a success because of the complexity of getting GBPVR and NPVR to work with the tuner and EPG.

For people that have NextPVR installed, that part of NMTInstall isn't required but some config.xml setting are still required which it does for you.

So is the configuration order?:
1. Set up a guest share on your server (and refer to the VI Reference Links section in the dummies guide).
2. Run NMTInstall2.exe
3. Test the connection (HOW?)
4. Install the mvpmc share as an NMT Source for direct access (On the NMT, you can do this from the Setup->Network screen. Just add the mvpmc share as a configured share).

I'd swap your steps 2 & 3. For a new user to confirm their ability to set up a 40/56 bit SMB share properly, they can play a music or video from the NMT interface and then move on.

I'm probably an expert on the NMT, but I don't feel qualified to comment too much on the wiki, since I understand what I write (and many don't). It looks easy enough to follow. I think the section you have for FAQ is more about enhancing use, and if it needs to be on a unique page maybe link with "Automatically Starting NextPVR and Other Useful Tips"

I looked more carefully on the wiki and I wonder if the two NMT pages should be linked better http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?n=Client.NMT and http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...lingmvpmc2 Also I feel there needs to be a link somewhere to the "GBPVR" info http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Hardware/NMT there's a lot of relevant information on that page that is lost until it is copied in.

Done. Although I don't like linking to the archived GB-PVR wiki but it's easier for me than trying to figure out what should be copied across

I just setup an NMT and followed the wiki dummies guide. The guide is good until the end.

Adding the share on the NMT needs a little more info, and then moving the "How do I start NextPVR quickly?" part over to the dummies guide would be helpful.


Might want to change "4. Install mvpmc share as an NMT Source" to "NMT Configuration" Under that have 4.1 Adding the Share and 4.2 Set Video Output. In adding the share it needs to be specified that the share name has to be left blank, the url needs to be smb://Machine-Hostname/mvpmc and the username/password left blank. The machine hostname of the server is also case sensitive. Under the "Set Video Output"section set NMT interface -> Settings -> Audio/Video -> Video Output to your needed output, ie: HDMI 720p 60HZ, it can't be left on auto.

Then as I said on the main dummies guide after the NMT configuration should be the "How to start NextPVR" since the guide seems to mount the share and then leave you hanging. Maybe make 5 "How to start NextPVR" using the info under "How to start NextPVR quickly" on the Tips and Tricks page.

Section 5 of the current dummies guide "Further Reading" could probably point to the tips and tricks page since it is essentially the advanced configuration section.


If you have any questions or anything else I can help with I'd be more than happy. It's fresh in my mind now, and I never used an NMT before 3 days ago so I think I'm probably the target audience for the dummies guide.

Also the NMTInstall2.exe file on the wiki doesn't work.
