I noticed that with both ATI and nVidia cards, when using DXVA and VMR9. I don't know if Microsoft have broken something because it definately used to work fine, but now most of the programs I use exhibit this behaviour. It looks like the field order gets screwed up, and then that gets deinterlaced.

What your describing sounds like the well documented dx9c quartz.dll bug. See here http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=5600

I noticed my trusty dx9b version 6.05.01.0902 was replaced again with another broken dx9c varient just the other day. Maybe SFC or a windows update, anyone know of a way to prevent this ?

I suspect you have a driver problem or DirectX9 problem. I recommend re-installing Catalyst 6.6 and Microsoft DirectX9.

Edit:
This can also happen on AGP cards if the Catalyst driver has disabled AGP read/write.

Thanks - I tried again after blowing away all previous driver references & a new install of Directx9 - still the same issue (and AGP read/write was on). Back to the shop it goes)

Just before you return it, have you tried disabling AGP Fast Writes in your BIOS (if it's enabled)?

OK so i've read through this while thread and tried a few of the solutions but none of them seem to help, i've attached a picture of the problem, when the game is running those bars alternate and this happens when watching TV(although much less noticable then) and playing and console games(when its most noticable, im using composite inputs if it matters)

I have no idea what is going on with your picture, but it doesn't look interlacing related (or to be more specific deinterlacing related).

My guess is a scaling issue.

I've been testing in a few games and that issue has only seemed to happen in that game(although i have other games i haven't tested)

meanwhile all games(and TV sports while we're at it) do somehting slightly different(atleats it appears slightly different) as illustrated in the second pic i took, is this a different issue altogether or is it the same thing?

First picture - dot crawl
Second picture - interlacing artefacts

thanks, now i gotta figure out how to fix both(the second is more common but doesn't look nearly as bad as the pic shows, the first looks worse than the pic but only happens in 1 game so far)

any help would really be appreciated

EDIT: I've been searching google and i keep reading up a comb filter issue when it comes to composite inputs but i keep reading it affects PAL sources with no mention of NTSC, i'm wondering if getting an S-video cable may help either of the two issues(most likely the first one)
