build 7 is out. It should fix the problem with recordings not registering as stopped.

I checked the logs nothing written about this basically thet say live preview started then when it crashes the log stops there..
I tracked down this one locally: it's because GB-PVR expects something to be available to preview. sub is going to stick in a fix for the next version, and I'll probably have to update the plugin to support it, but it's tracked down, and it's easy to fix.

I've managed to configure remote recording control while going through 8 pages of the above discussion. To summarize:

On a server side one has to share Recording directory and place "gbpvr.mdb" into a shared folder and change its path in config.xml. Alternatively, one can share GBPVR installation directory.

On a client side one has to change three entries (RecordingServiceLocation, DatabaseConnectionString and RecordingsDirectory) in the config.xml so that they point to the server. Here is mine:

<RecordingServiceLocation>tcp://192.168.1.1:7968/RecordingRemote</RecordingServiceLocation>

<DatabaseConnectionString>Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source="\\192.168.1.1\RAID\gbpvr.mdb";User Id=admin;Password=</DatabaseConnectionString>

<RecordingsDirectory>\\192.168.1.1\RAID</RecordingsDirectory>

Also as on the server side my recording source is normanr's External Recorder Plugin, I had to install it also on client PC. Otherwise it is impossible to create a new recording, although it was possible to make changes to existing one.

Finally, even though it does not really bother the fuctionality except that the GBPVR on the client PC runs abit sluggish, there is a error in gbpvrrecordingservice.exe.log:

12/08/2005 20:12:44.234 VERBOSE [13] RecordingFactory.loadSchedule()
12/08/2005 20:12:44.312 ERROR [13] Caught unexpected exception: The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '\\192.168.1.1\RAID\gbpvr.mdb'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data.

PS thanks for a great work. I was not able to do such things with commecial software I tried so far SageTV and BeyondTV.

does the server have read/write access to the folder that the mdb file is in? (remember it needs to create the ldb file)

Maybe try this idea from drugstore_cowboy. If anything - it's worth the try.

build 8 is out. It should fix the problem with the second recording (directly after the first) on the same channel not starting correctly.

has anyone put together a guide to this plugin? as i understand it, this plugin looks like it would act as a second tuner but when you select a channel from the guide to record, it would actually launch a commandline. if properly configured with vlc, it would allow the user to begin streaming the channel to a url when a channel is set to record in the guide.

this is my impression from looking at the options for the plugin, the wiki, and the brief plugin documentation... but reading here makes it seem like there is more than i first suspected. if anyone has the know-how and the time, maybe someone would add some detail to the wiki for stuggling new users like myself? particular points of interest are sections like "what is possible with this plugin" and a step-by-step on how to get things up and running on both the server and client machines.

any takers? Smile
