close, actually it allows you to record from a url as a channel - i.e. instead of the capture source being a physical card in your pc, it's a network based resource.

ah, so this plugin is used on the client not the server? i notice that you need to specify the location of the vlc executable - does that mean that it is actually using vlc to *play* the stream (not gbpvr itself)? so how does one setup the server to host each channel as a url? apologies for the questions, but not having experience with vlc has made this a difficult learning curve for me.

Correct. In preview mode vlc is used to play the stream directly. In time-shifting mode or when recording then vlc is asked to record the stream to disk. (Which is then possible to view using GB-PVR).

If you want to set up a server, have a look at the vlc docs: http://www.videolan.org/doc/. The Web Admin interface of GB-PVR has an extremely basic streaming interface, but it's not suited to streaming to lots of users on demand.

does gbpvr have any innate ability to play streaming video? since vlc is used to play the stream, do the hotkeys and OSD for gbpvr still work as expected?

GB-PVR will play the video stream if timeshifting mode is used. If preview mode is used then the hotkeys won't work because vlc is active instead of GB-PVR.

I'm sorry, the link:

was in timeout.
But now it's working right.

Is there a step by step guide to setting this up so people don't have to trawl through 9 pages of stuff to figure it out?
