It was the mentions of "sharing or http" that had me searching the client-side for how to select one or the other. Coming back to this thread rang the bell to tell me I was looking in the wrong place.
I think my problem has been that the NMT has worked so well until I've had to be decoding encrypted broadcasts that I have not been keeping up with all the other available clients and their problems/fixes so it is all new and different.

There is an alternate version of kodi called DSplayer that allows you to install the filters from the nextpvr app in KODI and view growing recordings and a real time shift buffer.

That is because it uses Direct Show just like NextPVR and then you end up with the same decoder problems that you might have with NextPVR. I don't see the point unless you like Kodi PVR's look better.

I'm not sure if this will help but the Kodi blog post for v17 Alpha 2 mentioned this for the new VideoPlayer:

Improve playback of live streams: PVR and streams that can be identified as live. Live streams won’t fill internal buffers after playback was started. Sooner or laters buffers will overflow or stream stalls if no special treatment is applied.

Yes I was playing with this yesterday and it works much better at least from from x-newa on http and shares, skipping with the mouse and remote keys never let me get within 8 seconds of the end for in-progress recordings. Unfortunately I don't think sub's web server allows seeking on live TV streams, even within the limited buffer of the normal rolling file, so no change there.

I haven't been able to install a PVR addon to test it.

Also I find the Estuary skin OSD odd now, they really hide the name of media, it seems more mouse, touch oriented.

Estuary also adds the ability to show the description in x-newa and in sub's PVR Addon (I decided to try it). One other oddity on the main OSD in the PVR addon instead of subtitle they show genre.

I can skip just before the displayed timeline and then the new end time gets calculated

Still can't get this to work. The time increases as I let play past the original recording length but as soon as I try to skip it jumps back to the original recording length. Maybe it is an Android problem?
