jam_zhou: your card only works in timeshifting mode because of the double capture pins - In preview mode GB-PVR tries to use the wrong pin. This isn't something that the WDM plugin does, and needs to be fixed in the GB-PVR core. I've spoken to sub about it, so there might be a fix in the next release. We'll probably have to remind him though.

justincranford's card doesn't work in preview mode because of the strange requirement to join the video capture to the audio capture card via the aux pin. There's some code to partially do this, but it doesn't work well when there are multiple pins to choose from. The card might/should work in timeshifting mode though.

Tried to use the wdm software decoder but also received the index error when trying to select live tv. Card was listed in the selection box in the settings. ATI TV Wonder VE. Is there anything I can do to further help testing?

Hello,

I’m writing with a question regarding gbpvr.

In this forum post there is an unidentified user using an ATI TV WONDER VE with GBPVR. Since he is unidentified, I don’t know how to contact him.

I have the same card, and cannot see how to enable it in GBPVR. The selections for analog cards for Direct Capture do not specifically include the card, only some similar ones, which if I choose them, say that I don’t have the driver installed. (I do have the driver installed, and capture does work with the ATI software.)

Can you give me any advice on how to configure GBPVR to use this card?

Thanks in advance.

dpeterk: You need to install the WDM plugin first, then add the capture source, save config, and reload config app. Then you can configure the plugin and choose your card.

norman,

Please forgive me if these are basic questions; I've looked around on the forums and docs, and don't seem to find the answers.

1. When you say "install WDM plugin", what is this? Is this part of the gbpvr installation, or something I need to install separately? I already have the ATI WDM drivers installed. Where do I find the "WDM plugin"?

2. My understanding is that my card has hardware MPEG2 encoding; it has a Philips tuner and conexant encoding chip. However, the title of this thread is "WDM Recorder using Software Compression". Does WDM imply software encoding, or will I be using hardware encoding in GBPVR, since I think my card supports that?

3. I noticed this wiki entry about adding a capture card: http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Hardw...aptureCard. Do I need to follow this to create an entry for the TV Wonder VE card? If so, do I need to change any entries other than the bold entries in the post?

Thanks in advance for your reply and help.

norman,

After further looking I found the wdm plugin at: http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Plugi...reRecorder

Thanks,

Norman,

I've installed the SW Recorder plugin with the ATI TV Wonder VE card, and could use some help, as I've run into a few issues:

1. No audio. I have the audio capture set to Line IN (which is hardware patched to the capture card audio out).

2. I see video in Live TV (Preview Mode), but there are some problems. The performance is poor compared to live tv in the ATI software. The video is "skipping" like watching playback that can't keep up with the processing; also, it is flickering in a way that looks like it is trying to scale incorrectly -- the picture jumps between two widths that are slightly different, like the playback is trying to scale to fit the Live TV window.

3. I've tried to record, and when I play back the video recording, it crashes GBPVR. Same thing happens in WMP (after "error dwnloading codec"). Same thing in timeshift mode.

The MPEG2 codec in use is the ATI MPEG2 Encoder. However, in the config Playback tab, I do not see the ATI or other decoders listed for Video Decoder; only Cyberlnk Video/SP Decoder.

I'm attaching my configs, any help would be appreciated

dpeterk:

A1. I see you found the plugin.

A2. This plugin only uses WDM drivers. Some cards expose their hardward compressors as WDM components, which makes them work with the plugin.

A3. That wiki entry only deals with the 'Direct recording', the WDM driver doesn't read those files. Instead it allows you to try and use any WDM capture card.

B1. Unsure what the issue could be with no audio. Try changing mixer settings and see if it helps.

B2. Try different render settings: overlay/vmr7/vmr9/vmr9custom. Also try setting the quality settings for LiveTVPreview.

B3. You probably don't have any video decoders installed.

C. The error is because something else was using the capture card at the same time.

gam3r: no clue. It seems that others have reported success with the Pinnacle card that have an 848 chipset, so it might work.
