Wake up from Standby - for EPG update

I found the wonders of standby mode, and have to say how brilliant it is.

However, the one problem I have encountered, is that the Scheduled Task I have setup to run for XMLTV, does not seem to run and wake the pc up. Also, I assume that GBPVR is not waking up to import the epg.

Is there any clever way around this, or could I make a feature request to have the pc woken up X minutes before it imports the EPG (so there is enough time for the Scheduled Task to run before import) please?

You can set GBPVR to wake up to import the (existing) xmltv file into gbpvr's EPG under "capture sources"; just check the check box "wake machine".

If you then, in the gbpvr directory, create an file called updateEPG.bat, that file will run just before gbpvr updates the EPG. In that file you do the call to your xmltv program, like so:

c:\xmltvfolder\xmltv.exe -yourOptionsOfYourChoice

In effect, gbpvr will wait to update its EPG until xmltv.exe is finished.

This is exactly what I tried. My machine does wake up but no epg update takes place. Any clue?:confused:

I also seem to have the same problem. I'm using the xmltv guide and i've got and updateEPG.bat file to run the download. The machine wakes successfully at the correct time but the goes back into standby less than a minute later. If I then wake the machine manually I can see that (front the times on the files) the xmltv update hasn't run and the database hasn't been updated. However, a couple of minutes after manually bringing the machine out of standby the xmltv update kicks off and then the database is updated. I actually see the xmltv update window come up on the screen as the update happens. It's almost like the machine has woken for the update at the correct time but the update is actually scheduled to happen a couple of minutes later, which just happens to be after I've manually brought it out of standby.

Has anyone got any ideas on how to get this working properly?

Are you sure the batfile points to the right dir etc. or do you have your xmltv stuff in your gbpvr-dir?

Thanks. The bit about the update waiting for a random interval after the scheduled time is interesting, that could be why I saw the update happen after I'd manually woken the machine to try and investigate the problem.

Are you sure the batfile points to the right dir etc. or do you have your xmltv stuff in your gbpvr-dir?

It definitely points to the right place - if I open a command window in the gbpvr directory and run updateepg.bat it works fine.

Set the standby time to at least 10 minutes, depending upon what is going on even 5 minutes is sometimes not enough

I forgot to mention this, but the standby time is set to 10 minutes, which makes it all the more strange that the machine goes back to sleep so quickly. I would have expected there to be something in gbpvr that prevents the machine from going back to sleep until the update is complete, but maybe that's not the case.

Does anyone know how to find out what time things are scheduled to happen in windows e.g. can I look somewhere in windows and find that the epg update is scheduled for a certain time and that the machine should be woken.

I had this problem occur when I first set up my computer to wake out of standby. After much debugging I found that my networking did not wake up/initialise quick enough and I effectively had no internet access and so the xmltv guide update failed.

I put a pause of 60 seconds into my batch file before calling the xmltv update and all worked happily after this. A search on the net should be able to provide you with an executable that you can call to perform a pause (sleep.exe as I seem to recall).
