EPG automatic Update

I made myself many thoughts and had many tests and now there are two possible ways ... either I make myself a total idiot or I can help someone solve this thing ...

I did it like this:

Task sheduler in windows starts xmltv.exe at 04:14h (awaking the machine from standby)

My problem was ... while gbpvr is running it won't get back to standby after updating

So now ... at 05:00h gbpvr updates the epg and at 05:15h tmsShutdown (freeware) brings the system back to standby.

So when my wife hits the button next day ... the machine comes back from standby ... GBPVR in foreground running and EPG is completely updated.

As I said before ... maybe this is crap ... but if it helps anyone ......

If some of you know a more elegant way to do the same ... PLEASE ... tell me !!!

Does the machine normally, with GBPVR running, go into standby after a certain (set) time? Or do you put it into standby "manually"?

Hi

we usually send to standby manually instead of power it off.
It is easier and faster then to wake the machine.(Only one press of a button)

And it can be woken by programs to do some work in the night.


A standby on a special time is not needed.

I didn't mean: "on a special time", but after a certain time (amount of minutes).
Did you setup the system to go into standby after e.g. 15 mins, in windows-config-powermanagement?

No, I didn't.

The system is started manually (mostly from standby)
And after using sent to standby from GB-PVR.

The powermanagement is not used.

So I guess if you would setup powermanagement to go into standby after e.g. 15 mins, it would go into standby after the epg-update.
You can start your xmltv-update in epgupdate.bat, then it will run before GBPVR will update EPG. You don't need to setup taskmanager then and you don't have to worry about xmltv.exe being ready in time.

But I have two questions about that.

Where do I find epgupdate.bat?

Will powermanagement wait for example for a movie to be played or will it stay open when I watch live TV and willit surely wait xmltv.exe to be finished ?

You can very easy make epgupdate.bat yourself. It's just a textfile with commands to be executed.
e.g. : mine looks like this:

cd tvgids_to_xml
TVGids_to_xml.exe
epgfilter.exe epgdata.xml gbpvrepg.xml
cd..
---------------------------------
first it goes to the dir where I have my xmltv-program,
then it executes the xmltv program, then it does some filtering and then it goes back to the gbpvr-dir(probably not necessary).
If you have the xmltv-stuff in your gbpvr-dir, then a batfile with just (in your case):
xmltv.exe
should do the trick.

Gbpvr waits until xmltv.exe is done then it updates its epg.
Powermanagement only puts to standby when the system has been idle for the set time.
Afaik you should add a prepadding (1 or 2 mins)for recordings to give the system time to wake up.
It takes some testing ofcourse to make sure everything works.

A last question ... I'm testing a bit ... but have I always got to wait to a full hour to see the test ?
I can not manage to set the minutes in GB-PVR-Config for the automatic EPG-update ... can only set hours

Yes you have to wait, and you should also know that gbpvr does not start the procedure right away but it waits for a random amount of time( a few mins mostly), so that the epg-servers don't get flooded at certain hours.
