Not sure what that means for your plugin, I just thought it was worth mentioning since you had developed a gmail plugin.

It would be nice if it could read/subscribe to multiple iCal files.

This is the format that Mozillas callender apps use and a bunch of other calender apps, it was originally dreamt up by apple i think.

See this website. People upload their calenders for specific stuff like the football fixture lists. Downloading just gives you a local copy of their file, but subscribing to the hosted copy means any updates the creator makes to the calender are reflected at your end...quite usefull for when Sky picks your games up and dumps them on a Sunday! Big Grin

how much of a technical feat this is i have no idea...

Think an import Calendar (ical or other formats) would be possible.

How about the basic plugin. Thinking month/week/day view with the abilty to add 'entrys' for each day.

My question is how much detail/info should be for each entry. Currently have a single field - note. Where you can have for example "Mum's birthday" or "Dinner at Tiffanys".

Appointment times/entry repeats etc add complextity which I'm not sure would work well in a PVR enviroment.

Thoughts?

i think the user should define categories and colors and the default category in the config-app. on the frontend the user than could add a note and change the category (or leave the default category).

categories should have a few more options, so i.e. by choosing the category "birthday" the note will be added as reocurring event, once a year.

Sounds great; the ability to import/display external ical files would be a definite. Google Calendar has the possibility to export ical (or even xml) files so it would link up pretty well.

I think subscribing to iCal is even more important than importing. This would allow users to have a SINGLE data store. If you allow only for imports, than users have to re-import every time their calendar changes.

My question is how much detail/info should be for each entry. Currently have a single field - note. Where you can have for example "Mum's birthday" or "Dinner at Tiffanys".

Why reinvent the wheel with a new datamodel? So many entitys are supporting iCal which has already standardised calendaring reasonably completely and well (indeed, even Windows VISTA will support iCal in its bundled calendar which assures that MANY people will start using it -- see this

Also, I don't think that it makes sense to allow for data entry of calendar information into a PVR-based interface. How would one go about entering appreciable amounts of text with a remote control, for example? Predictive text entry is a pain at best.

Why not consider making you plugin display only? Leave the data entry to dedicated calendaring apps. And to answer your specific question of how much detail to display -- consider letting your users make the choice by making the fields displayed user-selectable!

Thanks for your work in extending GBPVR!
