Hi,

I was working on getting my Set Top Box to change channels with the WinTV PVR2 USB2 card and the IrBlaster it came with. I installed Hip and went about setting it up , got a bit confused with connecting the IR blaster and HIP program but as I was still in the process have now noticed that my recordings don't have any sound now.

I have been using this guide
http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Tips/HipGuide

But the instructions don't jive with the newer HIP software for teaching Hip to use IR blasters???

Help please...................

Thanks

I wrote the initial version of the HipGuide, but havnt got the new version of HIP/HIPsend running yet so I'll be doing the Guide update sometime in the future.

In the meantime, Zehd has posted an extra page on the wiki concerning the new version, link which could shed some light on the differences youve found. The changes are as a result of this thread on the HIP forum, which may also shed some light.

As for lack of sound, i think thats generally a driver issue...

Thanks for the guide and new information. I think I might have figured out the problem. Please correct me if I am wrong. The IRBlaster has to be placed on the STB to work???

I found that I wasn't able to teach Hip codes from my STB remote which is a DishTV 311 box, so maybe it isn't IR? Any way to find out for sure?

Verifycation of these facts will be appreciated.

By the way, I uninstalled Hip and removed the MCE driver and wahla...Sound is back on my recordings.

Thanks for the help

You have to have it right on top of the IR receiver in your STB. Mine is placed on the window of the STB right in front of the receiver, to the point where the 'real' remote controls signals are mostly blocked out by the IRBlaster and gaffer tape thats holding it in place.

As to what version of IR your remote/STB is using (there are several different types) bung your remote controls model number into google and see if there is any technical info on it buried away somewhere. As long as its RC6 (which most are) it should be okay though.

This is usually a good place to root around.

The method i used for finding a reliable placement was to teach HIP the code for my STBs 'mute' function, and then set hip up to cycle the code every few seconds using the 'Test IR' function in the 'add/edit IR Commands' window. then i could just move it around the STB window until the box suddenly started muting and unmuting.
