i know this was addressed in an earlier thread but that was reguarding PAL formated videos. All of my videos only show up on the upper half of my screen and the bottom half is left black no matter how the video was formatted.

i fooled around with every configuration i could think that it possibly is and no go. the hauppage application shows the videos just fine (well not in the upper half of the screen)

any thoughts? suggestions?

Ok, i got it to work with that hint that avis act different.
as suggested somewhere in the wiki i unchecked both the transcode options in teh mpv area of the config and that works great.

As you have discovered, the MVP is a bit of a funny beast at times as it just does "stuff"™ with mpg files.

Watching an AVI actually causes an realtime transcode to mpg and it's the mpg that the MVP plays back. From my own experiments, the MVP does one of two things with mpg files.

1. If the mpg dimensions are typical broadcast size, say 640x480, 720x576, 384x288 etc (not a definitive list), then it scales the video to full screen.

2. If the mpg dimensions are somewhat odd (to the MVP) then it does no automatic scaling and instead plops the video at the top of the screen such that if it's say 604x200 you get the picture at the top half when normall it would be centred with top and bottom black bars.

I tweaked my ffmpeg line in config.xml to deliberately scale to a slightly weird size to stop the MVP autoscaling and instead I then add padding to the top to shift the picture down.

David.

can you explain how you did this? I removed both transcoder checkboxes, and I get sound no video (on screed displays work), so I'm assuming it's playing video off screen.

an update:

I also installed xrecord/vlc (mentioned in another thread), no luck, i also tried using diko to encode the file to mpeg, while the video was the right size, there was no sound and the video was jumpy and pixelated (i'm clueless on that end),

it just seems to be avi files, which happens to be the majority of my files This doesn't happen when I hade the mediamvp software running.

any ideas?
