Hey Guys,
I need some quick help. I just want to transcode a divx to mpeg 2 using TMPG Xpress, I tried it once but after it was done the video playback was jumpy and jittery and the audio was a little behind. There was a lot of wierd settings that I didn't know what to set on TMPG and I was wondering if you knew what to set it as.

Xvid file original settings:
608x336 pixels
Framerate: 23 fps
Data Rate: 141 kbps
Video sample size: 24 bit

Settings In TMPG(that im uncertain about):

First Screen (Set Source)
Video Mode: Progressive (default) or Interlaced
Aspect Ratio: bunch of different ones

Second Screen (Set Output)
Size:Blank Pixel by blank pixel (what should these be?)
Aspect Ratio (again): 16x9 Im guessing?
Framerate:29.97? 23? 25? etc
Video System: NTSC? PAL? I live in the USA
DC Component Compression: left at 8 bit

Im not sure if im suppose to retain the size and format of the xvid file or if im suppose to change it to my liking. Thanks again

Hi,

You have to keep the frame rate the same between the files - or you'll have to do some audio editing. If you encode at a different frame rate (such as 25) the video will be faster (if converting to 25 FPS, then it's 4% faster than 23 fps)

Thanks

I use the ffmpeg program that is installed with GB-PVR to convert xvid encoded avi's into mpegs with the following batch file:

Code:
@echo off
set inputfile=%1
set outputfile="%~dpn1(svcd).mpg"
start "Converting" "CHANGE_THIS_TO_THE_CORRECT_PATH_FOR_YOUR_INSTALLATION\devnz\gbpvr\Third Party\FFmpeg\ffmpeg.exe" -i %inputfile% -target ntsc-svcd -ar 48000 -ac 2 %outputfile%

Place this batch file in your gbpvr directory, then drag-and-drop the avi files (one at a time) onto it. The converted file will be saved in the same directory as the original, with the name "ORIGINAL_FILE_NAME(svcd).mpg".

This produces ntsc-svcd mpeg files, which are suitable for playing through a Hauppauge MediaMVP, and can also be burned on a dvd.

Thank you, I have tried your suggestion but when I drag the file on top of the batch program and the opens up the command prompt it says Converting the dissappears and no progress bar or renamed file or cpu being used to convert is there other things i need to change in order for that to work?

Sounds likeyou have a path error.

Add a pause at the end of the batch file to keep the command window open so that you can read the error message.

Try doing this.
Start menu->run
and type
Code:
cmd
Then type
Code:
C:\devnz\gbpvr\Third Party\FFmpeg\ffmpeg.exe" -i c:\xvidfiles\myfiletoconvert.avi -target ntsc-svcd -ar 48000 -ac 2 c:\mpegfiles\myconvertedfile.mpg
If something goes wrong, it will give you a chance to read the error message.
