Wish there was a way to have more than 1 Recording Folder.
Like have a list down being the Top Location being the Primary Recording, the second becomes the next recording folder, and so on.

This would be good for a growing number of people who have added bigger drives to quench their thirst to record everything on their guide, tinker with GBPVR, add all the plugins, and not watch any of the recordings.
Win XP Pro SP 2
ASUS P5k-PRO Dual Core 3.0 GHZ with 4GB RAM
1 Seagate 150 GB SATA HD
1 Seagate 1TB SATA HD
1 Seagate 750 GB SATA HD
1 Hauppauge PVR500MCE
2 MVP (2 Wired / 1 Wireless via 2 Linksys WRT54G routers)
1 dead MVP (searching for replacement)
reboot

Set gbpvr to "Auto create folders when recording" on the misc tab.
This will make folders with the showname.
You can never have enough tuners!

You're still generally stuck with one drive though. You can do symbolic link or whatever its called, but you would have to do it for each seperated show. Kind of a hassle.

Thanks, I know shows can have separate folders, makes it a lot easier to clean up later, but I was referring to the main Recording Folder. It is limited to one main folder, if it gets full, you have to go config and reassign another and submit the previous recording folder as part of the video list (don't know if it will update it correctly though) or archive recordings to a different drive.

But it would be nice to be automated to allow the virtual "recording folder" to grow as big as you want without being limited by the physical hardware. Imagine, original recording folder is almost full ... solution: get money from wife, buy extra drive and add to recording folder list.

I can get this same effect for you simply in software, as i do now. Convert your hard drive holding your recording to a dynamic disk. Now, whenever you want to add another hard drive....simply make that one a dynamic disk also, and winxp pro will span the 2 together so that they look like one big drive using software. It's similar to using software raid. Using this, you can keep adding to your heart's content.....but it will simply look like your original recording folder is simply growing.

Only problem there is that if one drive fails, you're stuffed. Discrete drives have an advantage here. Smile

Well, as with most things...that is the trade-off. Considering that there is no option for this within gbpvr, this works for me.....however I do admit that a way around this built in to gbpvr would be better. By the way, I personally image my drives every so often.....so I'm never in danger of getting completely hosed by a drive failure.

How big are they? I have 700GB for video across 5 drives (two stripe pairs) and one on its own. That's just too many DVD's and too much time for me to even contemplate imaging. Smile

The other problem with spanning is that you can't contract back again, the only way is to copy the lot off and then rebuild. It wouldn't be too bad if you could shrink a set back down again but I digress.

The test version of the video archive plug-in posted in the developers forum will copy old recordings from the recordings drive to other drives and update the gbpvr datbase to point to the new location. In effect it will give you a bigger recordings directory that spans drives.

Well, in your case you are screwed Smile. I have 200 GB, and I back it up to a network storage drive.......so it's still possible for me. But, you do basically bring up the pro's and cons of this setup.
