Sub,
To my original question, it appeared that gbpvr tried to record the 20 minute long segment, but failed. Any idea why? I have had shows that were changed by 30 minutes or so and gbpvr picked this up making only 1 recording. I do not recall if the program guide showed 1 or 2 events. However, this time, it displayed another small segment recording, that failed. Did the fact, that I had a 2 minute overlap on the original recording affect anything? Maybe, the fact that there were 2 listings screwed it up? Am i out of luck and subject to the whims of the program director of the station?

I guess it was two parts because of the way zap2it supplied the listing. I dont know why the second part failed though.

The listing may still be in the guide if you scroll back to that timeslot.
Check the time in recordings, and compare it to the listing shown in the guide.

96.xx had a thing where if a season record was scheduled, and the listing time changed, it could schedule two overlapping recordings in the same timeslot (one records the other fails). But it only happens under some conditions

Jim,
Can I infer from what you said that 1 recording always fails, and that the 2 minute overlap has no effect on failing? Have you ever had this situation where the extra recording did not fail and you could replay it later?
Thanks

I'd set my recording to pad an extra 40 minutes in case the networks decided they needed to repeat everything W had to say, but the recording still ended at the top of the hour. I don't get that - nothing else was scheduled (I was watching the Grey's Anatomy finale). Good thing I caught it & started recording the "news"... I'll have to edit them together later.

Yes, exactly.

My "96.12" system is stable enough that I rarely (if ever) have a recording that completely fails. On a occasion one may fail to play to the end of the timeline (if there is a dead spot in the broadcast), but it can usually be fixed by running VideoReDo’s quick stream fix, or some other remux utility.

I don’t know what to say about the overlapping recording issue other than try sub’s new release, several people have looked at the problem and it appears that something is keeping the GBPVR.mdb open so that it doesn’t erase the “season” pending shows every time (for everyone) when it updates the EPG. Another thing you will see if you have the issue are pending recordings that show up as conflicts, but when you click on resolve, there is nothing there to delete?

I’m doing a few things in my personal UpdateEPG.bat, like closing the GBPVR-Tray app with process203, and emptying the epg before GBPVR does its auto-update. I also compact the database using GBPVR_compact after each epg update using PostUpdateEPG.bat
I haven’t had any overlap problems while using them, but I’ll be the first to admit it could just be dumb luck!

This is just one of those situations the PVR where you need to swear about the broadcaster for days. You guys need to get a president that doesnt interrupt important shows.

Can I just point out for the record I never said in the post you should do it, in fact I said specifically you shouldn't be the one to do it (hence "not sub" part), I said maybe a plugin author should do it.
