Hello,

I am new to gbpvr, but have been using the MediaMVP for about 6 months now. I was wondering if there were any plans or possibilities to get away from reusing the MVP Transcoding components with this product.

I use my MVP to primarily watch anime fansubs. Most of the time, the MVP cuts off the subtitles, either on the bottom of the screen - or on the sides. For a while, I had a running dialog with H. trying to get this resolved. In the end, they were not able to deal with this.

I would love to have an interface where you can actually change the settings for the on-the-fly transcoding, so that I can fit the output to the screen I am watching.

Please let me know if this will ever be a possibility (without actually trying to wait for the H. team to get it right)

Thanks!

It does already offer transcoding. It's based on ffmpeg, rather than the Hauppauge licensed mainconcept components. Like the Hauppauge components, it requires a quite grunty CPU to work well.

There is no 'interface' for it, but you can adjust the transcoding settings if they dont work well for the sorts of file you're playing. The <MVPFFmpegTranscodeCmdLinePAL> and <MVPFFmpegTranscodeCmdLineNTSC> settings in config.xml control this. You can find a description of the parameters at http://ffmpeg.sourceforge.net/ffmpeg-doc.html

Thanks for that quick response! I can't wait to get this software loaded onto my home PC.

I was just relying on the following info from the wiki MediaMVP page:

---
What software do I need for DivX playback?

* You absolutely have to have the Hauppauge software installed if you want to watch AVI files.
* GB-PVR reuses the transcoding components. Install the latest version (beta 2.4 as of the date of this FAQ), then stop the two MediaMVP services and set them to “Manual Start”.
---

Anyway, if this works - I think I'll be running out this weekend to pick up a PVR150 and maybe even another MediaMVP.

Thanks!

The only situation where it tries to use a Hauppauge component is if you try to play WMA audio files.

Sounds great! Thanks again for your quick response. This sounds like a really great piece of software.

I went ahead and installed the software on my computer last night. This is probably the best thing I have downloaded for my MediaMVP! It took a bit of adjusting to get my episodes to fit on the screen correctly, but that ffmpeg entry you directed me to let me do it.

At this point, I am assuming this is a problem with my TV instead of with the MVP. Even the MPV Positioning tool is way off. The numbers that position the box perfectly centered in the screen skew the screen after the mvp is rebooted.

Anyway, I am gonna order a pvr150 now, and get things up to record from cable - so I can get rid of Time Warner's DVR/Digital TV.

Thanks,
Jonathan
