Blank White Screen

I have a MSI Theater 550 Pro and when i installed gbpvr on a clean install of Xp with all of the service packs and net 2.0 i can get a blank white screen when i view the live tv. i hear the sound but no video. any ideas?

Did you install a mpeg decoder? or try selecting another one in config-playback tab.

i'm new to GBPVR too and thought i had it all set up perfectly. then last night got this same result

the problem is definitely in the recording as another networked machine gets the same white playback + sound. and like i said, been perfect for over a week of recording or playback until now. drivers for the 550 were updated a few days back, but recordings since then have been fine so i'm not quite ready to blame that. i seriosuly doubt it's a GBPVR problem either

one thing i did notice this morning when i opened the box to do something else i had an inkling to check the temps of all those cramped PCI cards. i noticed the Theatrix card gets MIGHTY hot.

Does it work again when it's cooled down?

hard to say. it works again later (or after a reboot), but thats rather inconclusive.

on my Sapphire Theatrix card at least, the tuner gets very hot and the little ATi chip scorching! No idea why they didn't heatsink it. it's no doubt designed to run hot but any idiot knows that keeping electronics cool prolongs their life. a $186 card lacking a $0.25 heatsink, wow talk about cost savings! anyways, like i said, doubt thats the prob

maybe the crossbar isn't being initialised properly when the reocrding starts? which i'd probably blame the ATi drivers for

I had this same problem and found a fix.

All I had to do was change the Playback setting to "Overlay Manager".
It's possibly your setup has problems with VMR.

Try "Overlay Manager" in the Playback tab settings. This worked for me.

Already using overlay manager.

My specific problem is during the encoding process. Playback on other devices has the same white screen+audio. so codecs, playback settings etc are totally irrelevant

which means either hardware fault, or init failure or hardware fault casuing init failure

hasn't occurred since. cooling was improved. still not conclusive though... well see after a few weeks of regular recording
