That's good. It reminds me of the first time I smoked a power supply. I had just finished re-assembleing the computer after an upgrade. I put everything back in its place plugged it into the socket and hit the power button. . . . Nothing. "Huh" I said so I unpluged it. Checked everything again and pluged it in. This time when I hit the power button a large blue spark arced through the back of the power suppy, I could see it through the fan grill, and a puff of smoke. Gone! To this day I still have no idea what the hell went wrong.

Great thread!

I had an Atari 400 with the smooth membrane keyboard. I wanted a Vic 20 but my mother said I had to choose something from sears (she had a sears card) and they only sold Atari. Never got the cassette drive (it may still be on backorder with sears).

I also spent many many hours typing in basic code from magazines. I remember spending close to a week typing in code for "Tron" playing it once, then my little brother hit the wall switch which controlled the only AC outlet available for the computer and I lost everything.

I came accross my "Assembly Language for c64/c128" book last night in a box.
Man, that was a long time ago.
It all makes sence now why I burn so easily in the sun.
I never went outside when I was a kid.

Ah, assembly language - the last language to avoid becoming object oriented.

When learning IBM mainframe assembler at college, I discovered the instruction "ZAP" (Zero Add Packed) so couldn't resist defining a packed numeric variable "POW" so I could include the line "ZAP POW" in a program. Luckily, my instructor was also a comic fan and, even though I wasn't the greatest student, gave me a passing grade for "creativity".

But I really don't want to talk about that Big Grin
OMFG - registers with methods? OO machine language even?
No wonder you don't want to talk about it. Smile

Assembly language was for wimps ! I couldn't afford the ZEAP assembler Prom for my Nascom1 and had to type in the Z80 machine code in HEX!
I got so that I could assemble the the Hex in my head, in fact some of it is still there... c3 80 0c ( jump unconditional to 0c80 - start of user RAM).

I also burn to easily in the sun...
