Hi,

Yesterday HDTV test broadcasts were started in the swedish DVB-T network.

I've managed to scan the channels in GBPVR but I only get sound and no picture. I've tried the Cyberlink multiplexer and the PowerDVD 7 codec.

Anyone having a GBPVR setup that is able to pick up HDTV(H.262) broadcasts that could share his/her config?

Any input would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Martin

In the UK, h.264 test transmissions are using MBAFF, which is currently only supported by software decoding solutions. You won't be able to decode MBAFF with hardware acceleration enabled. The only software decoders currently supporting it are PowerDVD 7 and the Elecard decoders. CoreAVC should be getting MBAFF support in a few days.

However, with software decoding, you need a very fast CPU as it will be doing all the work, and I believe that requirements are even higher with MBAFF support.

I don't know if the Swedish broadcasts are using MBAFF.

So far I only know that the HD TV in Sweden will be using H264 free to air.
CoreAVC have support for this format at least when it is demuxed out of the TS.

Is it possible to choose another demultiplexer than the commercial ones predefined in the dropdown menu?
How do I proceed to create a direct show filter chain to decode this mpeg4 instead of the "standard" mpeg2 format ?

Any help available?

I'm curious... what capture cards are you guys using when trying this here in Sweden?
I'm not always right

TechnoTrend TT-1300 an old one...

A question, How to get Haali media splitter to work in GB-PVR together
with coreAVC?

Not possible in this version of GB-PVR.

stefan - the Nova-t USB2 you have should be capable of receiving HD. My Nova-t PCI cards are picking up the UK test HD transmissions.

As Chris Day says above though, software H.264 decoding is slow in relative terms. I haven't yet managed even a glimmer of a picture in live playback and anything I capture plays back at aroung 5 -10 fps depending on the decoder I use. This is with a P4 2.4GHz machine with 1GB RAM and 64MB Radeon 7000 gfx card.

Cheers,
Brian

LOL

Yeah - it's pretty boring watching recordings in slow motion all the time. Smile

What's annoying is that the method I have for playback is using only about 30% CPU usage - don't know why. I'm trying to write my own playback app. so I can contol the thread priority to see if I can push it to the limit. If I can get a better fps with my existing gfx card, I'd consider buying a faster one with more RAM - it's supposed to make a difference (I'm told).

Cheers,
Brian

Have you tried the coreAVC codec?
I can get full frame rate on a 2,5GHz amd with Nvidia 6200
with zoom player and coreAVC.

Atleast when watching the mp4 HD trailers from apple.com

There is a very big performance diffrence between different h264 codec implementations.
