Microsoft is allowing anyone to download vista. Check out: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/5059110.stm

Also: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/ge...fault.mspx

For those of you who are brave enough, godspeed!

so...? i know this sounds like typical ms bashing... but i certainly wont switch over to vista.
all those new 'features' i heard and read of are things i don't want and need.

i'm using ubuntu at my main compy@home. of course i still got an xp (gbpvr) and a win2k (development machine for gbpvr) running.

so i'm hoping gbpvr will be running on win2k/xp a while longer... what i will do when gbpvr makes another move to a new .net version which may be not available anymore for xp/win2k i don't know yet...

I'm with Betlit on this one.
Looking through the promotional website, they ( of course) make it all sound wonderful. What is not mentioned at all is how the DRM system will lockdown victims --- sorry "customers" --- and their digital content, and what it will and wont allow.
I'm sticking with XPpro and Linux.

You all forget something VERY important:

This download is ONLY a BETA! This one is really slow, and many function don't work properly.
This download is only for testing purposes. I downloaded the 32-Bit and the 64-Bit Version of this, only for just playing around a little bit.

The good thing: This Version has a lifespawn of ~12 month before it disables itself.

Bad people now could install this BETA on LowEnd Machines and sell the for much money *lol* at ebay *smile*

Same....

I'll bet that all the new 'features' will just make that next upgrade all the more sooner and more expensive.

I guess that a Linux version of Gbpvr would be a little too much to add to the Wishlist forum....8)

I think this would be really too much work for sub, even now GB-PVR needs more then enough attention/time from him.
Remember: He has a family too, and i am very grateful for his efforts within this community.

Btw: I would NEVER use Linux ^^;

I've been testing Vista for awhile now and the last 2 betas have really come together. Is it perfect? No, it's Microsoft but I'm becoming comfortable with it. Really, most won't have a choice in about 12 months as it will be rammed down their throats. Plus, after they get people to pay for the full versions AND test it for them while they use it daily, all the bad things will be forgotten and most likely, so will XP. That said, I feel very pleased with XP and I remember when it came out what the naysayers said.

They estimate the Ultimate edition will cost in the region of $380 though!

I dont like the way they separate the features as they have, ie MCE included in one version, but not full RDP support and vice versa.

I haven't read what all the versions have but do know that Vista Home Premium and Ultimate that I've tested both have MCE included. The business versions do not and I doubt the Home Basic does. Actually, I can't see what Ultimate would have that you need to pay more than the Premium version. I think all their prices are ridiculous and it better be damn good for close to $400.
