Are there plans to enahnce (even further...) the EWA so that it can control other aspecs of GB?
Just as an interface. For example, play a music album, pause, etc.

EWA has the ability to play/download music from your music library....individual songs or albums as well as play/download your video files which ar in addition to your recordings.

I am working on integrating the web streamer functionality that was developed by sgilani. This is provided by having VLC installed on your GBPVR server....you can then stream your recordings at various bitrates and watch in a browser window via a plugin or via native VLC or Windows media player.

We are always open for suggestions for improvement and track the requests on the wiki for EWA.

I think you misunderstood me. I want to use the EWA to control my GB instead of the remote. So, the song/album would play on my main PC with GB running, not where I have my web client (so I can play songs on my HTPC, controlling it from any PC in the house).

Wait, wait wait... VNC is over-kill:
A) It transfers the display. I need control, no display
B) VNC could do the Guide as well. Yet you found a reason to work with a streamed down web UI
C) VNC and alike (I am juggling between VNC and NetOp [which has the best performace] and sometimes RD), none of them are perfect. They have issues when video is playing (forget the fact they can't handle the video stream performace-wise, that's OK, they have bad influence on application trying to display the video, like GB).

In any case, you have control over GBPVR using the web-UI, I would (that's me...) like to control other facets than the guide/recordings, such as music player.

On another note - if there was a way to control GB from the command line, could workaround this way....

How are you going to play songs or whatever you want, without display?

I don't understand the question...

Here's what I want:
1) GBPVR running on PC in living room, connected to the TV and sound system (already has that)
2) EWA running on GB
3) GB playing something, e.g. a song, on main speakers
4) me sitting in another room, answering the phone, pausing playback using a browser.
5) me continuing playback (or skipping, or selecting other songs, or what have you), from any other PC (well, we have few), using all but a browser with a quick and simple interface (read: not slow remote desktop control, such as VNC).

It's like having an RF remote... without having an RF remote (but having WiFi network :p)

It's not a huge important deal, but it all started when I asked will it ever be part of EWA, and somehow got you all missing my point.

I'm sure people can see the benefit of something like this, even if minimal. That's why you have a web-admin in the first place! It's the same that I have a web interface for my eMule/Bittorrent clients, so I don't have to have a full desktop control to make them go.

I was thinking of that tooBig Grin . I'm not sure if I agree on VNC being slow. If you cut down on colors, and you use the keyboard shortcuts I think it would be quite fast. And it would give you the advantage of full control from anyware. Just my 2 cents.Smile

It's not that I'm against the desktop-level RC. But I think there are two levels - the full desktop remote, and the quick control of functions.
At least with my experience, VNC is slow. Especially if there is video playing - it can't cope with it. So everything becomes sluggish (what if the Visualization is running while playing a song? all I wanted was to skip-song, not the view the whole shebang on my remote PC).

You know what? I have an idea for a different plugin/util combo - "remote-remote-control" (Remote^2 Control? R^2C?).

It's a plugin that runs on GB, listening on known port, together with a small GUI application that looks like a simple HT remote, that runs on other computers and sends the keystorkes over the TCP to a pre-defined "IP : port".
Second version would have it 2-way, displaying the "now playing", etc. on the "LCD" of that remote GUI Big Grin

What do you think?

Finally, this will allow me to sit in my backyard, with the laptop thrown next to me, and controlling the main stereo in the living room playing something for the whole family.

Oh, if someone is taking up the gauntlet, make sure it controls video, FM radio, Net Radio, etc...
(maybe I should post this in the plugin forum...)
