This is my first post and it's not just a simple "How do I...", so please read on.

I have several MPEGs created by GBPVR from my Hauppauge Win-TV-Nova-USB2 freeview Rx that I've burnt to DVD using Ulead DVD Workshop 4. The whole process worked fine but I've noticed that I've lost some of the original MPEG!

If I compare a frame from the MPEG with the same frame from the DVD, then what I see on the TV is slightly zoomed in - I've lost part of the top, bottom and sides of the video. I'm guessing that is because part of the original MPEG is now in the screen area reserved for the front/back porch and teletext information.

If that's the case, then how do I get to see all the image? Is there an app that can add borders to an MPEG thereby forcing the active part of the image into the visible part of the screen?

Also, was this "border" not present in the original video stream - where has it gone?

Many thanks,
Mark.

Sounds like its just the overscan on your TV. There really isnt anything to do about it, except play around with your TV settings and burning settings in Ulead.

That's what I thought. But as this was a TV transmission, then surely that should have been taken care of by the original broadcaster?

Another thought I had was that my receiver is automatically adding in the 5%borders on the fly. That might explain why the live broadcast looks ok.

I also have a separate Humax PVR and that shows the live broadcast ok as well as playing back the recorded broadcast correcty. It only seems to be an issue when the file is transferred to the PC and burnt to a DVD. This would also support my theory that the broadcast itself does not include the 5% border.

I'm still open to suggestions and enlightenment from anybody with DVB-T knowledge.

I sounds like Ulead is automatically cropping the black edges on your recording (I had this problem with Nero Recode). See if you can find a configuration settings for cropping and resizing, and make sure they are disabled.

Hi csy, I don't think it's Ulead because there are no black borders around the broadcast when viewed through the standard media players. I couldn't find anything to do with cropping and resizing apart from the TV Safe Area guide lines.

I'm pretty sure that what I have is what was broadcast which would suggest that in order to view the recording as it was originally intended by the broadcaster, then I need to add a border, otherwise what was once visible (in the original live broadcast) is nolonger visible in the recording.

I've heard the TMPGEnc can add borders so I'm going to see what effect that has.
