I was on the Hauppauge's UK forum and I happened to read about their command line utility ts2ps. In some limited testing over the last week, I have found it is probably the best mpeg-ps remuxer I have tried, it converted several difficult ts streams I have that wouldn't sync or crashed ffmpeg.

Best of all it is free to try for Hauppauge WinTV 7 users. The .exe is installed in the WinTV folder and worth adding to your bag of tricks.

Martin, does it give any type of indication during operation of framerate, ETA etc...? How fast is it?

No it doesnt. It's pretty quick.

It's worth noting it is not a standalone utility though. It needs much of WinTV7 to function.

For this I don't consider speed nearly as important as quality, but since it is remuxing not transcoding and no heavy math I doubt it will be significantly different from other solutions.

Anyone using something like this in a batch file? It seems like the skipping in a .mpg file is more accurate than the .ts.

Hey re-Barr... I'm sure we all have various different experiences.. but I was seeking a solution to this for a very long time... I might be able to help you out...

I have been transcoding files using MEncoder and FFmpeg... downsizing the aspects, formats and bitrates, and comskipping the files... and been quite succesful..

Only problem is: It's dam slow... The length of time to transcode a new digital file (either TS or MPG) can easily creep towards three times the actual playing length. I used to think that it was OK because I'd be sleeping and one hour or three hours... whatever... but then I recorded about five hours of stuff and really couldn't watch much of it until late into the next day.

Anyway... now I'm using nPVR and deciding on whether I'll be keeping work on the project

I've done extensive test of skipping on the NMT in NPVR and a little bit less on the PC, but on both I've found skipping on ts files to be very accurate, typically within a second.
