Whenever I upgrade my gbpvr installation, I always zip up the gbpvr directory and tuck it away somewhere. Prior to doing this, I always shutdown gbpvr and the tray application and remove all of the logfies.

Putting all of the logfiles in a separate directory would make things a little more convenient -- not to mention making it easier to see which files have changed, etc.

EDIT: On the applications I deal with at work, we write all true errors to a separate "error.log" logfile in addition to the standard process logfile. This could be helpful for tracking down issues.

I wouldn't worry Smile
I'd requested a data directory that may well contain log files - not an easy thing to search for really - at least its moved up in the list again Big Grin

Of course, a 1 line batch file setup in Task Scheduler would work just as well.

You only really need to keep what, 2 or 3 of each log (and thats only if you are troublehsooting)

Just make a batch which says "move *.log c:\Logs"

then have it run each day, each week - whatever. (perhaps have it run before you backup if thats also automated)

Just an idea.

The Theorie is good.., practically not really usable. Why?

If you install Jeff's Weather Plugin, you'll get the uninstall Routine in the Mainfolder of GB-PVR. And if i am not wrong, this one uses a .log too.

Now you move all these files with the batchfile into another folder and perhaps, later, try to deinstall the Weather Plugin... and now?

I am not sure if there are other programs too, which will use this method of installing.

It will only remove those files if they are in the original installed location and only the ones matching the file names exactly in the uninstaller (or installation log file) are removed. It will not effect any other files or folders.
It will not even remove a folder if a file that it doesn't have on its list is there.

(Yes there are complex ways to write an uninstaller to search for files and delete with wildcards, but I doubt Jeff does this with simple plugin installs)

I use the same installer program and my stuff will only remove what it puts there, if it was not moved.

This i tried to say.

The only solution were to hardcode the saveplace of the GB-PVR.LOGs within other folders, i think.

Nevertheless, many of those logfiles are currently in use and not movable untill the file handles are closed.

How about you do the same thing with the batch file but hardcode, but to avoid trying to move a locked file, only remove log files hwihc have a "-" in them.

GBPVR.exe.log on next run becomes GBPVR.exe-1.log (or whatever the naming convention is - I'm not at home)

SO:

"move *-*.log c:\logs" or "move GB*-*.log c:\logs"

Just select the files which appear all of the times, and append -1, -2 etc to the file name (so thats GBPVR.exe, GBPVR-Native, Config, rename recordings)

Agreed that a seperate log file are would be good - but this will work until somehting like that was coded.
Either that or someone writes a clean-up util which deletes log files of a certain filemask and older than a date specified.

Thanks
