PVR 350 - Hardware decoder instability?

I wouldnt go that far. For the most part Hauppauge make great devices, and support them reasonably well, so I'll continue to recommend people buy their devices for use with GB-PVR. Obviously I wont be recommending people buy a PVR350 for its tv out capabilities though...

I agree, they do make great products. However, unwilling to fix a problem they know exist, is not what I consider good support.

Yep, I think we're all in agreement - I'm more than happy with the capture and radio features of the 350. The only reason I didn't exchange my 350 for a 250 (and get a refund on the balance) is that I got a great package which included a new hard drive.

I recently configured a system with a PVR-350. Originally I had problems with OSD and video out. But, with the latest version of GBPVR (97.09) it works great! I can use hardware decoded output straight off the PVR-350 so I don't need a fancy TV out graphics card. Quality is great and text is very readable. As far as I'm concerned the PVR-350 is no longer a bad choice. I know it has a bad reputation for support, but I love the config I have now and it works great with all aspects of GBPVR.

Even though it kind of still works, its no longer supported in GB-PVR, so I wouldnt recommend anyone buy one for the device's TV out. It still locks up and blue screens about 50% of machines.

It also misses out on many great features - DVD playback, video in a window, live preview mode etc.

Can the features that are missing be gained with a good TV-out card? GeForce 6200 or ATI 9550? I just bought a PVR-350 for the Closed-Captioning. I got it for the same price as a PVR-250.

Yes. Using a regular video card's tv out lets you access all features.
