I'm having the same issue. Replaced my 4200ti with a 6200 but the "fuzzy" picture persists. Especially on faces.

This is pretty much a deal breaker for my wife unless I can get this issue fixed.
If you look back in this thread you'll see that I replaced my 4200ti with a 6200 with component out and, by following csy's very excellent advice and config tips (all in this thread), I'm now enjoying a near-perfect SDTV picture.

I have a PVR-150 and am very happy with the quality of the TV recordings. When we switched to using the GBPVR media box (instead of the TV's inbuilt analogue tuner) we noticed that the picture was 'different' (I think this was the slight change in saturation levels, more than anything.)

We are also using a Nvidia FX5000.
On playback, the most noticeable difference is in fast-moving text; this can appear blurred to the point of illegibility. I suspect this is something which could be resolved by changing the display settings (eg. refresh rate) but I haven't played around with it.

Hmm, good idea Ubu, I shall burn a portion of the affected video to DVD and try watching it on the laptop.

The Nvidia FX series does not support hardware deinterlacing, therefore you will be using the default software "BOB' deinterlacing, resulting in blurred motion and overall fuzzy picture.

In order to get a sharp clear picture without blurred motion, you need a video card that supports hardware deinterlacing, as per my post #28 in this thread.
http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=1...stcount=28

If you have a high-spec PC, you can use FFDShow post-processing motion-adaptive deinterlacing (CPU intensive) which will provide an improvement over 'BOB' deinterlacing, however cannot match the quality of hardware deinterlacing.

WRT burning the recording onto DVD, 'UBU' was meaning that you playback on a stand-alone DVD player to see the quality of the recording.

Hi,

I have been struggling with picture quality myself, and hve been following these steps - to no avail. I now believe that my graphics card (ATI 8200) doesnt do de-interlacing, so setting purevideo for hardware accelerartion is probably a bad idea??

If so, what is the best setting for my GBPVR, and if FFDshow would show improvements, what settings do I need to set to force FFDshow deinterlacing, and not to use Hardware

The ATI 8200 does not support DXVA (hardware acceleration) or hardware deinterlacing.

Stattik provided some FFDShow deinterlacing tips here:
http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=1...stcount=14

(BTW, if you are going to read the whole thread, please ignore my posts regarding my 6600GT, - it turned out to be a hardware fault)

Oops, I should have said ATI 9200SE, does that make a difference?

Many thanks CSY, I implemeted the FFDshow settings and get a much better picture (at the trade off of 40-60% CPU).

I will look to getting a DXVA capable graphics card (ATI 9550 on or relevant Nvidia) when I have the funds.

So it was a hardware fault in the end ?

I think you mean DXVA AND Hardware Deinterlacing capable graphics card?

IF Nvidia, just make sure it is not an FX5200 or 5500 or similar. As csy noted in http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=1...stcount=28
Quote:the GeForceFX series does support DXVA but not hardware deinterlacing.
