Is MediaMVP software required for Divx playback/transcoding?

I have tried playing back a divx file running GB-PVR through my MVP. The screen goes black, and nothing happens. I never installed the MediaMVP software - is this the issue?

In the MVP tab in the GB-PVR config, the use FFmpeg of transcode box is checked.

My processor is AMD Athlon 3000+, 2.16 GHz.

Thanks.

No. It is only required if you want to play WMV files.

Are you running the current v0.97.9.

Thanks sub.

I am running v0.96.12. Do I need to upgrade in order to do Divx playback?

I don't think you need to. To play divx through the mvp, your computer has to transcode the divx to mpeg2 on the fly. So you get a black screen first when you start a divx, that's when the computer starts transcoding, that should take about 6 secs (default) then the show should start.
You need at least a ~pentium 2000 to keep up.

After about 5 secs of black screen, I see the play symbol in the upper right hand corner flash twice before the stop symbol appears, and then it goes back to the menu. Any ideas?

In my case it was always a non supported audio bitrate, as soon as I trancoded the bitrate to , lets say, 128kbps it was fine.
