The normal logic is (used to be) that if I schedule two recordings that are back to back on one channel, then as long as I have two cap. sources that can handle that channel, the first goes to one cap. source and the second to another cap. source...

I scheduled two recordings tonight from the TV Guide (using Record Once etc.). I noticed the first had been cut short by the same time as what should have been the post-padding. The second was the right length. I checked the log and both had been recorded using the same cap. source instead of being shared between two. Obviously why the first was cut short.

Is this a bug with manually scheduling two recordings from the TV Guide on the same channel? I don't think I've noticed this on back to back recordings when they're part of a Season record.

Cheers,
Brian

This is actually how I prefer it to behave. It leads to less conflicts, particularly for those with two devices.

You can still use the old mechanism if your prefer by setting <PreferAlternatingCaptureSources>true</PreferAlternatingCaptureSources> in config.xml

OK. But now I'm confused. I obviously missed reading the release notes for when you introduced that option. I always just remember that when I first had multiple tuners it was nice that things got shared out automatically.

I think I have enough tuners to cope with it Wink ... I've changed the setting in config.xml now.

The change was primarily to address a common conflict problem that would occur for users with precisely two tuners. For users like yourself that have more than two tuners, setting this to 'true' will probably give you the best experience.

More users have two tuners than users with more, so it made sense to set the default to 'false'.

This change made no difference for users with one tuner.

That seems fine to me. I understand that the issue of conflict resolution must be a bit of a headache. Now I know the fix in the config.xml then things should be back to normal.

I was about to discuss this - I added 2 tuners to my pc taking it to four and yet was recording 1 hour programs back to back with 5 mins either side and getting 55 minute recordings..... wondering what was up!

I'll set that now - I only got the extra tuners to better handle consecutive recordings one 2 channels - Its rare to need more than 2 channels in little ol' NZ (Except DAMB Topgear running to 8:35pm on a sunday night!)

I hadn't realized how complacent I'd been with the last system I was running (had a complete rebuild as that system had no free slots) - but I'm enjoying getting back to the forums - great sense of achievement as you knock each quirk on the head after a rebuild.

I don't know how you have any time for anything with the ammount of time you spend in the Forums Sub - Your wife must be very forgiving (Or like me you just keep her dosed on a large supply of recorded TV to keep her happy Wink )

Other than getting up a bit earlier than most, I knock off at five like most people.
