Before 9713, all recordings were successful. Since installing 9713, about half of my recordings fail leaving two 6Kb files in the folder.

This afternoon, I recorded a bunch of programmes to try and find a pattern. All that I found is that after a recording had failed for a channel then subsequent recordings on that channel also failed.

All that I can find in the logs is that recordings that work have:

VERBOSE locked=1 present=1 strength=3000 quality=100

and recordings that fail have:

VERBOSE locked=0 present=0 strength=-13000 quality=0

I can watch a programme in Live TV while that programme is failing to record.

The only plugins that I use are Themes and Volume OSD so I doubt if that is the cause.

Thanks

Graham

That indicates you tuner has failed to lock onto a channel. For digital recordings this will mean it'll receive no data, and result in an empty recording.

Nothing really, and I'm not seeing widespread reports of recording failures. There seems to be a few reported failures, but not that many.

If you have a failed record, post the details and I'll look into it. Given you have analog cards, it'll be unrelated to the problem above.

I am as sure as I can be that nothing about the configuration (e.g. TV card drivers are unchanged) or the environment (e.g. still receiving a signal from the same transmitter) has changed.

All recordings (five or more each day) worked before 9713 and now about half fail and have done on each of the last several days.

I installed and then uninstalled MediaPortal at about the same time as the 9713 upgrade (I like to see how they are getting on!). I am sure that nothing else has been done that might have caused this.

Thanks

Graham

P.S. Thanks for the staggeringly quick response.

Sorry, I dont know. These signal lock values are coming from the driver/device, so I can only guess that something has changed about your signal reception.

If this had specifically related to live tv, I would have suggested the patch from http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=17820. I suspect it wont help you, but may be worth trying.

If it was a specific channel, the broadcaster could of changed the PIDs. This would be fixed by doing a rescan and remapping the channel.

I installed the DLL.

Before the updated DLL, I got 6 failed recorings out of 13 attempted recordings.

After the updated DLL, I got 0 failed recorings out of 7 attempted recordings.

Fingers crossed, we have a result.

By my calculation, we went from "problem reported" to "fix supplied" in 19 minutes. Is this a new World and Olympic record?

Many Thanks

Hi there.

I have reported failed recordings (two 5.5KB .dvr-ms files) with 97.09 version before. I could not resolve that problem so I went back to 96.xx version and everything was working fine.

Today I gave a try to 97.13 - same problem. After replacing NativeUtilities.dll with one from the Survival guide, got some improvement but not a complete fix. Some recordings still fail.
I'm attaching log files of the last recording which almost failed - it produced one 5.5KB file and one file of several MB (I canceled recording after a minute or two). Both times tuner reported:

locked=1 present=1 strength=78 quality=78

I am in US. My tuner - KWorld ATSC-110.
If I am unable to resolve it - gonna go back to 96.xx again.

I also have the ATSC 110. I have noticed that 2 of 3 recordings over this last weekend have produced the 5.5kb files instead of recording correctly. I will change the "tune twice" setting to false tonight to see if that gets things back on track. I suspect that changing the "tune twice" setting to false causes some of my digital sub-channels not to tune correctly (recording an alternate sub-channel).

Serg, you may want to try changing that setting too. Maybe it will resolve your issue with minimal side effects.

I am pretty sure I've tried that with 97.09 and it didn't work.
I am back to using 96.12 until next weekend, maybe by that time somebody'll find new ideas to try
