Looks good.

Feel free to put it on the wiki. Probably best to have a table for each group (buttons, listview, backgrounds, popup, panels, etc). That way each group can be "signed off".

Think we are getting somewhere now Smile

Here is the table

I looked at button sizes in blue with all plugins. Some plugins use the same size button for popups so I think the name "popup" is not needed for buttons.

So, for plugins there is only a need for the larger "mean" size 160x30 and smaller "mean" size 130x30. We can define the sizes better based on goals, but that is what I see in blue.

(averages ran smaller than those sizes.)

Good work Fatman, mighty quick too! I would still like "small" or "popup buttons" to be there. Standard size buttons look out of place in popups.

Mixman, can you take a look.

I put "Small" in there. I am going to add ButtonPageUp_Selected for possible future touch screens.

Updated again, this time with almost all images that were floating around in the zip file.

Renamed some to match a new scheme.
Dropped some or merged (bullet ball background can be a panel? MCE2 might be the only skin that uses this.)

Anything else?

Maybe a Play, Pause, Stop icon?

I think this mostly does what MixMan hoped for as well, where items are sorted by a group.

See Background Items.

Background_Popup
Background_Text (Maybe Panel is better, I thought text was a better description.)

List updated again. http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Devel...munitySkin

*Separated Background list for easier reading.
*Background_PopupWide changed to Background_PopupSmall.
*Icon_xxxxx added to Misc.
*Icon_NoCoverArt was NoCoverArt.

I think the list is pretty good right now. The names to me appear to be self explanitory and are grouped by image types so a directory list will look grouped as well.

I think it is about 60 images, which isn't crazy.

(FWIW, I "sign off" on it as it is or with any changes really.)

Plugin authors that make their own icons or want to use their own icons will always have the option to do so. These just will be developed into a default standard for those who do not wish to go through the effort.

Custom icons for plugins should probably stay in the plugin's own directory.
This keeps organization easier and allows for dragging folders from one skin to another. A skinner can always choose to pull images out of those folders and drop them off into their own central image folder.

Thinking about organization now:

1*All in skinroot
Pro= One place, with no paths to type in.
Con= Can end up with many images to sort through in one spot.

2*All in a common image folder:
Pro= Images in one central location, separated from anything in skinroot.
Con= Can end up with many images to sort through in one spot.

3*Some in skinroot, the rest in a common image folder:
Pro=Major screen elements can be in skin root for easier sorting and path structure in xml files. Secondary screen elements, like icons, are separated in a common folder. (Secondary elements are less likely to be changed by a casual skinner or home user)
Cons=Two locations for files.

4*All in sub-folders (in a common folder or skin root):
Pro= Images grouped even further for better organization.
Con= More path structure to skin into. Multiple directores to keep track of.

More pros and cons for items listed?

To jumpstart this back up again.

Organization:

Images that convey a theme need to be separated from every day "utililty" images. (Dottore also suggested this, and MixMan agreed.)

These would be the "theme" images, that a skinner would modify to change the looks of a skin.
 1. Background.jpg==== Screen background. (Plugin)
 2. Background_List.png==== A background for list displays
 3. Background_OSD.png==== A background for OSD controls
 4. Background_Popup.png==== A background for popup displays
 5. Background_PopupBig.png==== A background for popup displays where size is closer to full screen
 6. Background_PopupSmall.png==== A background for popup displays where size is smaller than normal
 7. Background_Text.png==== A background for misc. text displays
 8. Background_TextNarrow.png==== A background for misc. text displays where height is much greater than width
 9. Background_TextWide.png==== A background for misc. text displays where width is much greater than height
 10. Button_Close.png==== A button for mouse support to close active menu
 11. Button_Normal.png==== A standard size button unselected
 12. Button_Selected.png==== A standard size button selected
 13. ButtonSmall_Normal.png==== A smaller size button unselected (typically for popups)
 14. ButtonSmall_Selected.png==== A smaller size button selected (typically for popups)
 15. ListView_Normal.png==== A unselected item in a list
 16. ListView_Selected.png==== A selected item in a list
 17. ListView_SelectedActive.png==== A selected item in a list that does not have focus
 18. ListViewDetail_Normal.png==== A larger unselected item in a list
 19. ListViewDetail_Selected.png==== A larger selected item in a list
 20. ListViewDetail_SelectedActive.png==== A larger selected item in a list that does not have focus
 21. IconView_Normal.png==== A unselected item in a Icon list
 22. IconView_Selected.png==== A selected item in a Icon list
 23. IconView_SelectedActive.png==== A selected item in a Icon list that does not have focus
 24. Title_Bar.png==== An banner image across all screens
 25. TVGuide_Grid6.png==== A TV Guide grid with 6 channels
 26. TVGuide_Grid7.png==== A TV Guide grid with 7 channels

 27. ButtonPageDown_Normal==== Not used. Provision for possible touchscreen support
 28. ButtonPageDown_Selected==== Not used. Provision for possible touchscreen support
 29. ButtonPageUp_Normal==== Not used. Provision for possible touchscreen support
 30. ButtonPageUp_Selected==== Not used. Provision for possible touchscreen support

These would be the "utility" images. They can be modified by a skinner, but typically are not.
 1. BulletBall_Blue.png==== An indicator for compatible remote controls
 2. BulletBall_Green.png==== An indicator for compatible remote controls
 3. BulletBall_Red.png==== An indicator for compatible remote controls
 4. BulletBall_Yellow.png==== An indicator for compatible remote controls
 5. IconView_DVD.png==== A DVD icon used in Icon list displays
 6. IconView_Folder.png==== A folder icon used in Icon list displays
 7. IconView_FolderMusic.png==== A Folder icon used in Icon list displays
 8. IconView_FolderParent.png==== A parent directory icon used in Icon list displays
 9. IconView_FolderPhoto.png==== A Folder icon used in Icon list displays
 10. IconView_FolderVideo.png==== A Folder icon used in Icon list displays
 11. IconView_Music.png==== A music icon used in Icon list displays
 12. IconView_Photo.png==== A photo icon used in Icon list displays
 13. IconView_Video.png==== A video icon used in Icon list displays
 14. More_Down.png==== A indicator (usually an arrow) for more selections
 15. More_Left.png==== A indicator (usually an arrow) for more selections
 16. More_Right.png==== A indicator (usually an arrow) for more selections
 17. More_Up.png==== A indicator (usually an arrow) for more selections
 18. Developer_Mask.png==== A temporary background image to help with layout
 19. Empty_Image.png==== A blank image used to rename as an image you want no graphic for.
 20. Icon_NoCoverArt.png==== A graphic where no cover art is present
 21. Icon_Pause.png==== A graphic to display a pause icon
 22. Icon_Play.png==== A graphic to display a play icon
 23. Icon_Record.png==== A graphic to display a record icon
 24. Icon_Stop.png==== A graphic to display a stop icon
 25. ListView_Folder.png==== Small folder graphic used in listmode
 26. ListView_FolderParent.png==== Small folder graphic used in listmode
 27. Line_Horizontal.png==== A line image used as a separator
 28. Line_Vertical.png==== A line image used as a separator

Plugin unique images should stay with the plugin folder. (Maybe a plugin unique directory may be defined as well?)

So, what changes should be made (if any) to names or where grouped?

Looks good Fatman, can't see any obvious changes.

What do you think the next step is? I was thinking we could make "guide" images for each of the items in the list, possibly similar to those used in MixMan's "designer guide". These can then be used to create some good xml's for all the plugins.
