Exactly.
I think the Fan boys are what's keeping Myth TV so hard to configure.
It doesn't matter if you need to sacrifice a chicken in order to get it work, they will still stand behind it & act like anyone who can't get it to work must be too stupid.

I tried using myth & I couldn't make it useful in a practical amount of time.
Freevo I can get running but their XML setup is hell & I just refused to continue because it just shouldn't be that hard, but at least the freevo people are helpful.

GBVPR just works. I can install it & have it running in about an hr.
If there is a problem, Sub helps out or provides a fix.

I'm not sure if it's an age thing, but I've never noticed anyone on here substituting a number for a vowel, everyone seems to have mastered operating the Caps Lock key and keeps their sentences & paragraphs to a reasonable length, which makes it an easy read.

All the above and subs seemingly 24/7 support and policing of the boards make it an oasis to return to compared to some sites, even people like myself who usually just lurk are compelled to make a contribution occasionally. Big Grin

Can't really comment on this personally since I don't frequent the forums much, but I would guess that it's due to the type of people that are here. By that I mean we as a group are doer's, tinkerers, etc and as such we know what it means to need a little help or give a little help.

Even though some of my posts can be long, at least I don't start my posts with:

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way--in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only."

-Opening sentence for A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens

I bought my first computer just three years ago and had virtually no technical expertise in hardware or programming. Thanks to this site, rather, the patience of you "experts", I have been able to get my PVR up and running with a router and two MVPs. When I look back at my early posts I'm embarrassed by how ignorant I was (and still am). You guys have never treated me like the idiot that I am and always come up with the answers in record time.
Getting a reply from Sub within minutes of a post is just unbelievable.
Thanks to all!!

I think its a combination of things, but I'd definately include that Sub doesn't tolerate whinging complainers. So you are left with those that can help and those that need some help. The wannabe crusaders have no place here. I visit another forum that used to be real useful for users, but the mods were to scared to get rid of a bunch of self serving whingers, and now that particular board is just full of people who moan about a service they dont even use.....like maybe sagetv users on here moaning that gbpvr doesn't do this or that  .

I haven't been around to long, or even been that helpful since I have been here. I do lurk a lot though and this is one of the most mature communities I've ever seen. It's amazing how quickly things are taken care of. Any time I've had a serious problem, I can search find where someone else had the same problem and get the fix or patch.
