Is there a way to auto-scan channels and add them automatically? Or does all channels have to be added manually.

I think you still have to add them manually. But you do know that you can use the included TuningAssistant to find the frequencies to use?
I'm not always right

It depends which country you're in. In the US, you shouldnt need to manually enter channel numbers or create channels or anything like. Likewise for countries that specify the correct broadcast channel numbers in their XMLTV files.
Other countries not so fortunate, will need to import their EPG, then set the appropriate broadcast channel number for each channel. You can find the this channel number by running the TuningAssistant. These channel numbers are often also published by the broadcaster.

...and for yet other countries (for example Netherlands, IIRC) stations aren't broadcast on "whole" channel numbers, but rather inbetween channel numbers, in which case you must enter the frequency instead of channel number.
