nitrogen_widget Wrote:Hi Brian,
I'm using a sapphire 9550 with the DVI to component dongle on my JVC 32" TV.
Anyway all I did was download the the latest catalyst drivers, set the card to clone view. Booted up with the TV attached & a second monitor & ran the HDTV wizard.
Picked 480i I believe at a 30hz refresh & My screen was centered without much tweaking.
There is some overscan, but It's actually less than I get with the Directv Tivo.

It's torture though to adjust the driver's colors at that resolution.

Thanks, I will have to sit down and try again. I only get so much tinker time on that box before the wife gets upset that the TV is not working lol. I have an SDTV so 480i is my only option. With regards to the overscan, did it stretch the GBPVR menus to the point where buttons were half off the screen and other plugins were messed up due to items being off the screen? Thanks.

Sounds like my wife. Smile
I use tightVNC & a wifi enabled laptop to do as much tweaking as possible.
As for the menus, now that I think about it, I had to re-install windows on the client PC a few weeks ago due to a dead HD & I can't remember having to do too much to get the picture centered.

I think I ran out of "shrink" on the slider in the ATI drivers & then just centered the desktop as best I could.

however I only use this PC for playback & recording off the Tivo so I just use the default blue skin & the tiny bit of cut-off isn't a bother to me, considering the video seems to play back perfectly.

I think when I get time i'll look & see if I can figure out how to nudge a skins buttons over a little bit.

All in all I'm thinking maybe i've just been real lucky with my hardware combination.

We use the PC hooked up to our main TV, the only time we switch it back to the cable box is when something happens to the PVR and I am not home to reset it, so the wife definitely wouldn't like the overscan on the menus. I have a pretty good picture with s-video, so I am not overly anxious to tear back into the back of the entertainment center and upset the wife more than I have to hehe. VNC works great, but you still have to view it on the TV for the overscan, and thats when the wife gets mad. what can ya do? Smile

Thanks for the help. I bought a samsung flat tube tv and the picture from the computer looks perfect. No overscanning no problems at all. The only thing I can seem to get the desktop to show on my Tv and monitor at the same time. One shows the full desktop and the other only the wallpaper and vice versa.

I am testing the radeon 9559 too, using the component dongle to a toshiba 43h70 hdtv crt rear pprojection..

man...the oversacn is killing me.....close to 20% I would estimate....maybe more.
I have yet to be able to get the picture or desktop in frame.....this has been going on for weeks with no end in sight.

I need help or I will have to go in another direction.

the component connection helps tremendously with viewing the desktop on the tv compared to the nvidia 5200. However the 5200 seemed to allow more control......lots of trade-offs....none have been fully acceptable.

Are you using the catalyst drivers or the omega drivers?
Omega drivers are missing something when it comes to tv out.

Did you set the dip-switches on the dongle correctly?

Am I missing something here? I have my HTPC hooked to my 37" Westinghouse LCD via VGA port, and it's just like hooking up a plain jane LCD monitor. Set the resolution to 1366x768 and I'm rockin'. As much as I don't want to have trouble, am I missing something?
