This has been happening to me ever since I updated to v0.97.13 and beyond. I've tried stripping the system down and doing a full re-install of everything, but it still happens.

After a variable length of time (but usually after 10-15 minutes of Live Tv, timeshifted or not - doesn't seem to matter) the screen freezes - sometimes the sound continues and I can 'back out' and close down in an orderly fashion, although very slowly (waiting for a few seconds for each keystroke or remote command to take effect). Other times I have to 'kill' the GBPVR.exe process from Task Manager, and then re-start the recording service.

The only thing I can find in the logs when this happens is the following (from GBPVRRecordingService.exe.log)...

Quote:15/08/2006 19:15:27.484 VERBOSE [13] RenewLease 1
15/08/2006 19:15:27.484 VERBOSE [13] RecordingFactory.LoadNext24HourEvents()

15/08/2006 19:16:12.609 ERROR [5] Found expired lease. Stopping recording.
15/08/2006 19:16:12.609 VERBOSE [5] Received request to stop livetv: 1

15/08/2006 19:16:45.250 INFO [4] GB-PVR Recording Service shutdown complete

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

Can you zip and attach a complete set of logs so I can take a look?

On this occasion, I watched live tv (no timeshift) for about 30 minutes, then went into timeshift mode and the lock-up occurred after about 5 mins. I had to kill GBPVR.exe from task manager then re-start the recording service, so the GBPVRRecordingService.exe-1.log file is the one showing the error. I started the session from a clean set of logs, so it should be fairly easy to pinpoint.

Its worth noting that I only use the out-of-the-box skin and no additional plugins. No MVP, I watch using the PC monitor.

Thanks sub.

I have seen a couple of other users with this same error recently, and I have added a change that should fix it.

I was never able to reproduce the problem here, and not sure why it only seems to affects a very small number of people, but they seem to get it often. I think its timing related - so different PC speeds, or capture device speeds, or channel changers etc could play a part.

I just spotted this thread...

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=18581

and realised that I had been seeing (on occasion) some jerky playback and/or out-of-sync sound immediately before the lockups, so I tried one of the suggestions and set the audio decoder to system default (was set to InerVideo Non-CSS before), and its just sitting there playing timeshifted TV and has been for about 20 minutes with no problem - maybe this has solved it until the new version comes out.

Thanks for the prompt replies sub.

About 10 minutes after I posted the last message, it started locking up again. I've tried all combinations of audio and video decoders/renderers etc. now, and different de-interlacing methods (I usually just use 'encoder pass through'), all to no avail.

It does always seem to happen when watching Timeshifted TV, but not always when watching Live TV without timeshift.

Can't wait for the next release as I now daren't go and make a coffee when watching non-commercial TV!

Sub - did the above change make it into the 98.08 release? If it did, it's not working, as this lockup is still happening in 98.08.

The problem causing that "Error rendering OSD: Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error message also seen in your logs was fixed in v0.98.8. Are you still getting that error message? If so, zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

Happened again a few minutes ago. Only watched Live TV for about 10 mins before lockup.

Logs attached...

You logging level is set to 'Error' so there is nothing useful in your logs.

That said, it is not showing the "Error rendering OSD: Object reference not set to an instance of an object" I fixed, so I'm pretty confident I got (see post #4 above). That problem had nothing to do with locking up live tv though, so you've probably got something else happening.
