This is pretty minor especially since I seldom watch live tv.

Live tv doesn't quite work. If I leave live preview on in config I get the same thing every time. Everything works but I only get a black screen / no sound. The really interesting thing is that literally every thing worked. I can see the channel change on the cable box, the decoder (purevideo but the same with others) comes up but the actual display process never starts. I can tell this by clicking on the purevideo system tray icon. Its control panel comes up and everything looks good but there is no data going through, the bits per second bar is zero. I can press ESC and be back at the gbpvr menu. I can also press pause during this black screen and the time shifting starting message comes up and then everything works. See the gbpvr.exe.log attached at the bottom of the file. The interesting thing is that the error is when I pressed pause which is what made it start working. Note no error was displayed on the screen.

Has it never worked, or is this a recent issue? I had a working install that suddenly started to give some black screens when I went to Live TV - it seems to have been fixed by applying the nativeutilities patch from the survival guide sticky.
You may want to see if Sub can see anything in your logs first though, in case it's a completely different problem.

I tried the replacement NativeUtilities.dll from the other thread just incase but it didn't have any effect. I have had this problem for several versions now but I am not sure exactly when it started. I know it did work when I first started using GB-PVR and at some point it quit working with a version update.

I just did a search and this is where problems first started, a little different issue than here though

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=15315

That started with 0.96.08 and live tv has been one problem or another ever since. Now it looks like it is so close to working andjust needs a little nudge.

SUB,
One thing I was wondering is if you could apply similar logic to live tv starting that you use for recordings. I know for recordings you look for the file size to change and restart the recording if it doesn't. Maybe you could check live tv for data throughput and if none is seen restart it. Just a thought.

I'm not really sure what to suggest. I've had a good look at the logs and everything seems ok. From the description and what I can see in the logs, the PVR500 is just not producing data on these occasions when this fault occurs. I dont really know why though.

Just for fun I chaanged the encoder passthrough setting for live tv to NONE. Now when ever I try live tv, either from the main menu or from the tv guide via watch I get the "Error reference not set to an object" with an ok buttin and I am back at the menu.

At the bottom of the attached log it shows an error for each time I got the above.

I have the same problem as pwborders. On most of the channels I got black screen in Live TV mode. As pwborders I'm also able to watch the channel if I press pause and goes in to time shifting. Also tried the recommended NativeUtilities.dll without success.
