Yeah because the update library internally to gbpvr only updates tracks where the date modified is different to the one stored in the db. The one onthe config app updates everything, regardless of dates.

Sounds very strange the ctrl-p thing. I have my media player set to false and interchangably use ctrl-p or ctrl-y to start playing tracks. I think my -p is set to queue as well..

I'll verify tonight....

and just to really be a pain in the ar......Rolleyes

When I first scanned the tracks I noticed I had an mp3 with some tag info I didn't like. The artist was showing up in the list with () arround the name and the title field was wrong.

I edited the mp3 tag info and double checked it was ok. I used Fast Update, nothing changed so I did Update Library. Nothing changed.

On checking the file name I found it had a "." in the middle eg. aaaaa.bbbbb.mp3
I removed the erroneous dot and tried fast update again. nothing happened so I used update library. This time the library details changed.

To prove that was the problem, I put the dot back. To my surprise, when I did update library, the tag info went back to displaying the data I had removed from the file :confused: :confused:

So I deleted the database, installed a clean blank copy and rescanned. The database is refilled with tag data and shock, horror.....the deleted tag data reappears in the database. I've checked, double checked and checked again. The mp3 file doesn't contain the dodgy data but as long as the extra "." is in the file name, the deleted tag data goes back into the database. How could this be? Where is it getting the info from? I've even opened the mp3 with a text editor to check it's not in there.

Whatever I do, Fast Update doesn't seem to do anything.

Sorry but I hate mysteries :eek:

I'm guessing windows media player puts tag information in funny places. But in saying that I've done that on my tracks (changed one that I didn't like). I'm only using the ID3V2 tags and I empty the V1.

Could you turn on stupid logging (it's an option in the ML2 config). Then navigate to that track and hit ok (enter) on it, then hit ctrl-K on it. The log should then dump every parameter available to windows media player and it's value. You might want to turn my logging off when finished.

"Insane Logging" on reveals the tag data returned when the file name has the extra "." is almost completely different to that returned when the extra dot has been removed. It's almost as if ML2 is seeing two completely different files or the duff data is being cached somewhere. Every tool I try (including WMP) insists the erroneous tag data isn't in the file.

Fast Update doesn't detect adding,removing or changing files. Library update spots the changes. Interestingly enough, renaming a file doesn't change its "last modified" time/date!

fast update only keeps track of files while GBPVR.exe is running.

That's surprising, I guess MS doesn't consider a file rename as a modification?!?

Could you send me the file (my email is listed in my profile) And the two different filenames that you've been renaming it to, and the tag data you don't want to show up, and I'll have a play tonight and see what shakes loose.

Ok ....I should know better......bl**dy Microsoft.

The thought of "cache" made me wonder about something. I don't normally reboot my PC, just switch in/out of hibernate. Last night I decided to re-boot and surprise surprise, the mysterious reappearing tag data has gone. Changing tags/renaming files now seems to work correctly with Library Update.

Changing files then clicking Fast Update still does nothing though and the M3U file issue still remains.

P.S and GBPVR.exe is running whilst I make the tag edits/file changes etc.

I've just tested: This is adding one track to the music directory - GBPVR is running and as yet, have not started ML2.

Code:
31/08/2006 9:06:23 p.m..468    VERBOSE    [4]    MusicLibrary2: Music File changed: D:\My Music\021 - Sean Paul - Temperature.MP3
31/08/2006 9:06:23 p.m..468    VERBOSE    [8]    MusicLibrary2: Music File changed: D:\My Music\021 - Sean Paul - Temperature.MP3
31/08/2006 9:06:23 p.m..468    VERBOSE    [4]    MusicLibrary2: Music File changed: D:\My Music\021 - Sean Paul - Temperature.MP3
31/08/2006 9:06:23 p.m..734    VERBOSE    [8]    MusicLibrary2: Music File changed: D:\My Music\021 - Sean Paul - Temperature.MP3

There here is the fast update calls:
Code:

TuckerTFT if you turn on the insane logging and rescan on a couple of your files that have the wrong genre's then I will get the following information:
Code:
Author=Sean Paul
CurrentBitrate=
Duration=212.267
FileSize=5943489
Is_Protected=False
IsVBR=False
SourceURL=D:\My Music\021 - Sean Paul - Temperature.MP3
Title=Temperature
WM/AlbumTitle=Top 40
WM/Genre=R&B
WM/GenreID=
WM/Year=2006

Insane logging on and I can see the end of the library load. I added two files at that point, one to a local drive and one to my networked drive (both setup in the config path).

Neither of them cause a "Music file change" entry in the log file. The use of Fast Update shows up with nothing found.

I've tried it with GBPVR running and after starting ML2 both with the same result.
